The gas light and electrical light came on yesterday. I had over half a tank of gas. The car started several times while I was running errands, each time the lights stayed on. This morning the car started normally. The lights were still on. At lunch when I got in the car, when turning the key it seems to want to start, but eventually wears down. The battery is new (July) and the battery connections are tight. Any ideas?

Act like out gas when you first start it

stalls (or misfires) tune up time, ever heard of a 60k mile service?
and get and injector balance test, sounds like they leak,
and the starts are doing so from the flooded state.

no crank.
repeat that again. the key switch has many posisitions
no (this era) car cranks, in the non run or start position so?
my guess, is the start position (spring loaded it is) is intermittant
and when starting you wiggle key , in the ST posistion and the starter
motor wakes up. this is a bad ignition switch, which love to go bad
with huge key rings, (heavy)
if car is A/T tranny, wiggle the shifter any time it dont crank
and, try starting in Neutral (fresh switch contacts there)

Stalls is a 2nd symptom and if the dash lights dont die.
then is not related to the ignition key switch.
that is the 12vdc power system is good and the EFI/engine has issues
try a tune up first. (its in the operators guide read that)

after tune up and drive 20-50 miles
now using any newer OBD2 scan tool scan the PCM.
got DTC'S? post them. DTC are ERRORS.

Check fuel pressure at the injector rail. If good, suspect crankshaft position sensor--when it fails to start, check for sparks by pulling an ignition wire off the coils and holding it close to the coil with an insulated tool while someone cranks the engine. If no sparks, replace the sensor.

Don't let the car run out of gas. Fill the tank and run until the tank is half empty. Again fill the tank.
By driving until you run out of gas, you are letting sediments/dirt collected in the bottom of the tank to enter the engine. Rather they will block the fuel filter. Then gas will not reach the engine.
Clean the gas filter and your car will run fine.
The same advice again. Don't drive until the tank becomes empty.

In my opinion it is caused by having too little gas in the tank. You are not suppose to run it it with that little gas anyways because it is bad for your car since all the contaminants can be sucked into the injectors and cause all kinds of problem.

Hard to start any time of the day for 1994 Nissan Quest XE.

turn your key on, DO NOT TOUCH THE GAS PEDAL and start, good luck. Pumping the pedal doesn't do a thing for fuel injection. In thre days of carburetors and you had control of your own property, Pumping did a couple of things. It set the choke and added more fuel. But that was yesterday and yesterday's gone.
