have you checked how much fuel pressure you are susposed to have. My jimmy requires 125 to 150 psi the fuel pump whines all the time or as it cycles. research how much fuel pressure you are susposed to have. then go on from there.
If you can hear a whining noise coming from the area of your fuel tank, while the vehicle is running. Then you are correct. It is time for a new fuel pump.
if it is a 2.2 L engine check the fuel injecters see if they are leaking or if you smell gas behind the valve cover,,,if not your next bet would be the coil pack coil; packs act up more when they are warm
possible fuel pump and/or incorrect fuel reading...these senders in tank can give false reading to gauge.key on-engine off runs pump for 3 seconds...listen to the pump in a quiet place like a closed garage and alot of times these pumps sound odd when failing like a louder whining noise than normal. turning the key off for 5 secs will reset and run the pump once again when you turn key on but do not crank. fuel pump is fairly common failed item for this make and model.Replacing sender while servicing pump is reguarly done as well.
Sonds like a sensor putting out an error code to shut it down ( like a fatal error code) Prolonged vibrations and heat can make cam sensors, maf, o2 senosr do craz ythings which will actuate a govener and stall your car...could also be you fuel pump causually telling you that "hey im bout to die".I dealership can run a stress test (if you will) to check the longivity of the pump...
Good luck hope this helps :)
