The issue is that the system randomly checks the loop of the fuel system to confirm that it has no leaks. A missing cap is the easy one to correct. It might also be a slpit in the rubber hose that connects the fuel fill tube (on the chassis) to the one on the tank, or any other hose in the the entire fuel delivery/ fume recovery sysrtem. The solenoid that allows the engine's vacuum to be used to conduct this test can also be sticking so that after the test cycle, it doesn't reclose. Good luck

Get it on a lift and check the engine mounts, exhaust and then under the hood for loose trunking etc. Look for shiny marks on hoses etc to denote rubbing on something.
code po440 refers to evaporative emission (EVAP) system--malfunction ===causes --hose connections --intake leak--EVAP canister purge valve
code p0441 refers to EVAP system--incorrect flow detected===causes---hose connections --intake leak--EVAP canister purge valve.
once you fix the fault use a scanner to reset the engine light.
Check the vacuum hoses not even a pin hole,Follow vacuum hose from throttle body to the evap purge solenoid diconnect line at eps can side and hook a hand vacuum pump to eps turn on key don't start add ten inches vacuum no drop in vacuum replace evap purge solenoid if it works it's probally the nvld assembly
if you have replace the purge solenoid the problem is either the vaccum supply hose is loosing vaccum or the purge side is hose is either blocked or cracked.
i hav a 2003 pt cruiser 2.2 crd touring
it wont go over 3000 revs engine light cums on.
error code p0243 i hav replaced wastegate solenoids cleaned egr valve cud it be the mass air flow sensor that has a problem
thanx
Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
The "EVAP purge flow" faults are issues between the carbon
cannister and the intake. The EVAP leak detection generally concerns
the fuel tank to carbon cannister plumbing.
A little background. The EVAP or evaporative emission system is a
control system to keep vapors from evaporation in the fuel tank from
getting into the atmosphere. The fuel tank is not vented, but rather
the vapors are piped to the carbon cannister (usually located behind the
pass. side front wheel) where the charcoal element absorbs the vapor.
This is actually a vapor "storage" device. Under certain engine
operating conditions, the ECU activates the Cannister Purge Valve (N80)
which opens and allows the engine vacuum to **** the fuel vapors back
out of the carbon cannister. This purges the vapor, allowing the
cannister to absorb more vapor. This evap system has been on vehicles
since the '70s.
As part of the OBDII standard effective for 1996 cars and newer, it
was mandated that leaks in the systems must be detected and reported as
a fault which will set the Check Engine Light (CEL). To detect leaks,
the system is pressurized by a pump so that leaks can be detected by a
lack of appropriate pressure in the system. If there is a leak, such as
a cracked vent hose, loose (or leaky) gas cap, poorly installed or
defective O-rings on the fuel level senders on the fuel tank, etc. a code will be set. On the cannister to intake
side, leaks are detected by deviations in the idle control system. If
you have leaks in the lines from the carbon cannister to the intake,
intake leaks, a defective purge valve, etc you will often get purge
flow faults.
My first recommendation is to closely inspect all the small vacuum lines
connected to the intake manifold. The corrugated plastic lines are
often the culprits, as well as the fabricate covered vacuum lines. Also consider replacing the gas cap.
P0440 and P0441 are refering to the NVLD pump. It is in the rear on the right side up near the fuel tank. P0344 is your cam position sensor on the rear (drivers side) of the cylinder head. The P0440 and 441 are probably why the check engine light is on and the 344 was stored from a previous event. Either way they are two different and unrelated problems. The NVLD (natural vacuum leak detection) pump is an emission item with no effect of the way it runs however it will keep the engine light on. The cam sensor will keep it from starting or intermittently run bad and not necessarily turn the light on. Both parts are easy to change. I hope this helps.
