1989 Ford F-150 Pickup The key will not start the truck, when I turn the key it does not engage the ignition switch. The key turns as it should but does not return from start unless I turn it manually. The rod going from the key to the ignition switch moves to the left before it goes down. I replaced both the key knob and the ignition switch and did not fix the problem. Is there an exploded view of the steering column and detailed description of how to repair?

Sounds as if the rod itself is getting stuck and simply remove the lower panel to expose the entire steering column and work the key to see if you are able to discover the issue that is causing it to not return

1989 Ford Econoline 150 Van will not start

Most all vehicles have main power cable to starter solenoid which is mounted on the starter where the power cable to the switch connects OR there is a separate heavy gauge red wire connected to the positive post of the battery that leads to the ignition switch. Also check your ground cable by connecting battery jumper cable to negative post on battery and other end to metal frame of van.

I need a wiring diagram for the power window switchs on a 1989 Ford F150 pickup My windows will work with the ign. switch is off

Sounds like a faulty ignition switch. Especially if any other accessories stay on as well with key off.

My car wants to keep starting even after turning the key off

solenoid may be sticking. Have someone start the car, if it sticks tap the solenoid with screw driver handle. If that stops the starter, replace the solenoid. If it were me, I wouldn't bother testing it and just replace solenoid.

By pass ignition switch

If your ignition switch is bad in your steering column, and the starter does not engage when the key is turned forward, then this is a quick fix for you.
BE SURE THE BATTERY IS DISCONECTED BEFORE YOU START WIRING. You can run some heave gauge (18 plus, and about 12 feet of it) wire to the top mount and the rear mount on the starter solenoid (one end of the wire to each, making a loop) Run the wire into the interior of the truck, and then install a toggle switch in the loop of wire. You will still have to turn on the key to engage the motor, but it will not start until you flip the toggle. That should get you by until you can replace the ignition switch in the column.
