For time being remove bulb(s) to save the battery but it sounds like the switch is faulty on the door.

This is how it works in Laymans terms:

When you open a door it operates a switch, with the door closed the switch is open-circuit, door open and it closes the circuit by means of putting a live to earth. This means a switch is somehow managing to get an earth signal with door shut.
Most likeliest is drivers door as it has the most use, work from there by removing switch, fault should be quite obvious with switch removed. The offending switch will put the light off when removed.

SOURCE: 2000 Ford Taurus Battery Drain - - After the car

using a test light with all doors closed everything in the car off; disconnect your black battery cable then: connect a test light between the battery post you just removed the cable from and the cable you removed; the light should light. this is your short (leak) then remove fuses until you find the fuse that causes the light to go off your problem is in that circuit.

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus that was running great when I parked it yesterday. Today it will not turn over, all electrical is out.

Dead battery. You must have left the headlights on or something. Sometimes when you turn your lights on from the passenger side without opening the driver-side door, the headlights may not go out automatically. Been there, done that!

2001 ford taurus power draining new battery & new alternater won't work when cables are removed from battery

That suggests that the problem is in the harness, something in the connector or wiring is causing an open circuit. You will need to have the circuit tested to find the fault. Ford alternators have known connector issues & new aftermarket connectors are readily available at most auto parts stores.

I have a 1994 ford taurus station wagon, the battery won't stay charged, the confusing thing is that the inside panel and door light works

you have a faulty alternator by the sounds of it, try this simple test, : test the voltage of the battery with the vehicle off with a simple multimeter, it should read just over 12v then test it with the car running, it should read around 14-14.5 volts if it still only reads 12v then your alternator needs replacing.

You could have a bad switch somewhere, like in the glove compartment, which wouldn't allow the light to turn off, or it could be a relay not allowing your interior lights to shut off when you close the door, or your headlight switch might be faulty, or anything like that. Start with checking all your lights in the car to see if something does not go out when the car is shut off and write back..

Since it is only happening on the drivers side door to multiple switches and lights on that door only, I think the problem is the wiring harness as it enters the drivers door by the door hinges.
