I hav e a 2001 Windstar And I thought my problem was in the rear also but the sound was echoing from the front. It so happened that the Front caliper bracket was loose.

How do I get the drum off

THE SERVICE MANUAL DOES ALL STEPS, IN BRAKE CHAPTER
FOR SURE
FIRST DRUMS 101
HAND BRAKE OFF. EMG. BRAKE. RELAXED AND NOT ENGAGED.
THEN IF DRUMS HAVE STAR ADJUSTERS THEY MOST BE SPUN FREE.
SOME Drums have screw or 2 , face bolting to hub face, remove those. but not on this car. but is skill set to learn on all drums all cars.
now I will read your SM to you.
I will Assume is USA spec car. only
always put in new shoes left and right, never just one. ever. or brake unbalance is not safe.
  1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. For additional information, refer to Wheels and Tires.
  2. If the brake drum (1126) is rusted to the axle shaft pilot diameter, tap the center of the brake drum between the wheel studs.(I use pen.lub spray)
  3. Loosen the brake shoe adjusting screw nut (2K389). (rear of backplate star adjusters.(takes skills , all things related to star adjusters!!!)
  4. drum now comes off, use pen oil at center hub juncture , just tad.
  5. drum off
  6. Using the special tool, measure the brake drum inside diameter.
    1. Install a new brake drum if the maximum inside diameter exceeds the specification molded into the brake drum.
    install we do this
  7. If adjusting the rear brakes, refer to Brake Shoe Adjustment - Drums Removed in this section.

Parking Brake

I guess my first question would be - did the parking brake work before you replaced the shoes ?
If yes, then you should not have to adjust the parking brake cable if everything is installed correctly. The shoes should be touching the drums but not dragging.
If you do have to adjust, there should be an adjusting nut in the front cable before it splits to each wheel.

Brake shoes on 1987 f250 460 1987 2 wheel drive how to replace

Lift the front of your Ford F-250 off of the ground using a jack and jack stands. Remove the wheels from the Ford with a lug nut wrench to prepare the truck for servicing. 2 Open the hood on the engine compartment and take the lid off of the master cylinder that bolts to the brake assister on the driver's side firewall.3 Remove the hex-head bolts on the back of the brake caliper with a socket. With the bolts removed, pull the caliper off of the Ford's brake rotor.4 Pull the old brake pads out of the caliper and discard them. Squeeze the brake piston back into the backside brake caliper with pliers, and then insert the new pads into the brake caliper.5 Pull the rotor cap cover off the middle of the rotor with a screwdriver and use a socket to remove the nut located behind the cover.6 Pull the rotor off of the wheel spindle.7 Remove the old wheel bearings from the brake rotor and insert them into the new rotor. If the old wheel bearings are worn, replace them with new bearings.8 Slide the new rotor onto the wheel spindle and secure it using a bolt and socket. After you tighten the bolt, press the cover back onto the rotor.9 Place the caliper on the rotor and secure it with a socket and hex-head bolts. 10 Duplicate the process on the passenger side of the F-250. 11 Close the master cylinder after putting the wheels back on the Ford and lowering it to the ground. Press on the brake pedal to seat the pads against the rotor
Replace the F-250's Rear Brakes 1 lift the rear of the Ford F-250 off the ground with a jack and jack stands. Remove the wheels from the Ford with a lug nut wrench.2 Place a strip of paint on the back of the brake drum and rear brake drum cover so you can position the brake drum orrectly when you put it back on. If you plan to install new brake drums on your Ford F-250, skip this step. 3 Place the brake drum puller on the brake drum and pull the drum from the wheel hub. The method for attaching the brake drum puller depends on the brake drum puller that you use. 4 Remove the springs that attach the brake shoes to the wheel hub by pulling them off with pliers.5 Lift the old brake shoes off of the wheel hub and place the new brake shoes on the wheel hub. Secure the new shoes with the springs.6 Pound the brake drum onto the axle hub with a rubber mallet.7 Duplicate the process on the passenger side of the Ford.8 Put the wheels back on the F-250, lower it to the ground and, then press on the brake pedal to seat the shoes against the brake drum.

HONDA CIVIC 2001 rear brakes put on new brakes they dont have a short shoe for emergancy brake i have adjusted them they make a light clunking noise and brand new drums on the rear this car is driving me...

Hi, When you adjust them they should have a light drag as the wheel spins. The E brake should be the same on both sides. As for the noise I hope you bought the OE (original equipment) brake shoes. The other brands will squeal. Good Luck

How do you replace the rear brakes on a 2001 Ford F250

First, get a set of brake shoes.
Second pull off wheels on both sides then remove the brake drums on both sides.
On one side pull off brake shoes springs clamps ect.
Using the side not dissasembled as an example, use it as a reference while assembling the side apart. Then pull apart the other side, and use the side reassembled to put together that side using it as a reference.
Replace drums and wheels, good luck, and give me a nice vote please.

Replaced brake shoes and had drums turned when installed the right rear brake stated to make a clicking sound when brakes are applied. The sound is consistant with the speed you are going when you apply...

you need to inspect your backing plates for grooves in the pads where the brake shoes contact the backing plate. during a break job these spots are supposed to be lubed with proper non grease brake backing plate lube. some people use never sieze compound... also make sure brake shoes were installed correctly having the primary and secondary shoe correctly in it's place, if you have grooves in your backing plates then the shoes will bounce up and down as they move across the groves this will make a clicking noise, also have seen cracked brake drums make noise... give close inspection with wheels off , if you can jack rear of car off ground support with jack stands , chalk front wheels , then remove wheels on both sides but use a lug nut to hold brake drum on securley, now have someone watch and listen and watch as you let wheels spin under power of engine at low rpm , inspect and watch for possible clues...please rate my help, thanks...
