2001 F150 4x4. Driverside wheel turns about 2 inches before engaging the other wheel. New tire rod ends inner and outer, new center link and new pitman arm. Truck has 4 inch suspension lift.

indicates that the spider gears in the diff have a slight wear in the thrust washers and the tooth clearance is at max limit
nothing to be overly concerned about as those gears ony work when turning a corner or differences in road surfaces between sides of wheels or in a bog situation
in driving straight ahead they seldom turn
check for problem cv or drive line "U" joints in the drive shafts

2009 ford f150 4x4.makes a scraping noise in left front only in 2wheel drive not in 4wheel drive.wheel bearings and brakes are good.what could it be?

Noises are the hardest thing to chase down. Back up and think if there are any modifications you made to your vehicle. New, or larger tires, did you hit a tree limb in the road, or hit a pill of snow or trash bag in the road. All of these can jerk an inner fender loose enough to touch a tire when your driving. Check your calipers to see if a shim or squeeker or other hardware has come loose and got between the break pads or the rotor. Is the axle in good shape. Or maybe something has gotten shoved up in the fenders like a stick or anything else that can be picked up on the road. I sure hope this helps.

I just bought an2003 ford explorer 4x4 and i have a loud humming noise coming from the front end tires are brand new it has around 190,000km please help

If the noise is only when the vehicle is moving it sounds lek you have a bad wheel bearing. You can inspect ford move ment or play shaking the tires up and down and left to right while lifted up on hoist or jack. If there is no movement doesn't necesarily mean the bearings are okay, however if there is movement in bearing replace and drive again. Antoher way to determine Which wheel bearing is bad is to drive and turn to the left, if the noise gets louder than it mens the rightside wheel bearung is bad. If you turn to the right and noise gets louder replace driver side front wheel bearing. Also Rub your hands across your tires, does it feel wavy or uneven, you could have cupped tires, I DON'T KNOW HOW NEW THEY are but cupped tires will also make this noise. One way to see if it is the tires is to do a rotate If noise changes at all then you no its a tire causing noise. Hope this helps.

Honda Pilot 111,000 miles. Wheel or tire noise?

it can be any of the above, rotate the tires and see if the noise location seems to change, but the last thing i would suspect is the CV, they just click when turning, the wheel bearing is my choice here, they roar, tires make a diff noise.

Clunking sound in reverse 4 wheel drive

Some is typical and some could be sign of worn u joints Have u joints inspected for loosness When in 4 wheel drive the front and read tires compete with eachother especially when turning causing a hopping or chirping. U joints are under alot of stress in tight turns and might make nois as well again check to see if worn and at the same time lube them if equiped with fittings

Front End Problems

first i would check the tires , are they cupped or chopped on the tread? run your hand over the tread and see if it feels rough and uneven. take the truck to a auto repair shop and have them jack both front and rear axles off the ground, put the truck in 2 wheel drive and run the speedometer to the speed you usually hear the roaring noise, if you don't hear the noise , put the truck in 4 wheel drive, turn off the traction assist if it has one and run it to the speed you would hear the noise. if you hear the roaring noise with tires off the ground, the problem is in the drivetrain, (engine, transmission, transfer case, u-joints, differentials or the front left or right cv halfshafts or u-joints). the older models (97 98) had the front two driveshafts from the differential turning all the time, they engaged in 4 wheel drive from the transfer case and a solenoid on the front differential. depending on the miles you have on this truck, the most likely areas i would look at would be the tires, u-joints/cv joints, and front and rear wheel bearings. thanks and good luck.
