What kind of oil do i use for a 98 mercury sable?

there are 4 selenoids in mercury or nissan which utilize same auto transmission. those selenoids work in combinations to direct AT oil into mazes to shift into different gears. if one of selenoids are lacking of voltage or wire is simply broken you can get this kind error. check connectors and wires of transmission first.

i would look into the owners manual if you have one for your vehicle, all manufacturers explain, what type of motor oil, they recommend, if you do not have the manual, look onto the oil filler cap, this is where you pour in the motor oil, i do know that ford recommends motorcraft part synthetic, some is 5 w 20, and some is 5 w / 30 weight. if you are still undecided, i would check with your local mercury / ford dealer.

I would check to see if you have spark and fuel at the motor. Double check that everything was connected back up.

in the fuse box under the dash. If all of your windows do not work there may be a broken wire in the driver's door wiring harness were it twist through the door jam

i am working on the same thing on somebody else's car and trust me it is alot of work. you have to remove all the pulleys and accessories, the valve covers, oil pan, and u have to do all this just so u can remove the front engine cover. unlike most cars where the oil pump is located in the oil pan, this is mounted in a weird position and it is rotated by the crankshaft. i am not yet finished but i know once i get the front engine cover off i have to remove the timing chains also. in my opinion it is not worth the time or the money. i hope somebody finds this information useful.

Check your transmission fluid. You could be alittle low. Check it hot in Park while running.
