My 75 El Camino (350 with auto) idles fine, runs/accelerates strong after shifting but even after a warm up, it tries to die on initial acceleration (cuts out, seems to shut off, then jumps up and goes suddenly). It also seems to struggle through first. After ten minutes or so, the problem seems to go away. The car is definitely due for a tune up, but I'm wondering if this is a carburetor problem or maybe the fuel filter.
I agree that it might be a carb problem - specifically, I think it is your automatic choke that is not opening up as the car warms up. Some spray carb cleaner may help - spray the inside of the carb and all outer surfaces - give it a good cleanup. It might help and it is very cheap ($5). If that doesn't help, take it in - shouldn't be too much - these older cars are much easier to work on than the new ones. Take it to a shop with guys over 50 that know carburators - everynoe else is taught fuel injectors and will not figure it out quickly.
Please rate me.
Ok first tune it up thats the best start then check for a vaccum leak. it's not the fuel filter. use some gumout in the gas tank to clean the carb use 2 bottles on a half tank and drive it normal so the cleaner gets to the carb ( 10miles) then let set overnight to soak then drive till you need gas. try these things and ket me know.
This sounds like the carb acclerator pump is not delivering enough fuel, replace it.
