You'll need a torque wrecn and a degree tools (most auto parts stores sell them). Torque sequence is 15lbs, then 37lbs then 130 degrees.

SOURCE: how do i replace the timing belt on the volvo s40

this is a difficult job to do if you've never chaged a timing belt before, but not impossible for the novice. I recommend that you get a book for you car and follow the directions very closely. do not get your info from this site. even though there are experienced mechancs that can guide you thru it. you need that book. also if you replace the belt replace all the components of the timing system, including the water pump, if it's in there. you only want to do this one time. labor intensive

Volvo s40 timing

Ignition timing is controlled by the engine management computer and is not adjustable. Valve timing is set at a fixed position when the timing belt is replaced and not adjustable.
