My ranger 89 2.3 starts up idels way up then gos dead

Just before a car runs out of gas it will speed up the idle (rev up) backfire and then die. You are probably experiencing a lack of fuel. Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail that goes to the fuel injectors. It should probably read between 5 and 15 lbs. If the pressure is bad, it could be a fuel pump or clogged fuel filter. Obviously it is cheaper to start by changing the filter. The line could also be clogged. If it has good pressure all the way up to the fuel rail, it could be clogged fuel injectors.

Fuel pump cuts in but car wont start

If you have to force the fuel pump on by the relay who is controling ignition? The fuel pump will come on thru the main relay which is next to the fuel pump relay this controls ignition,go back to the begining,on one of the coil leave a 1/4 between the sparkplugwire and the coil crank the engine there should be spark is there is no spark correct for spark and fuel will return when the ECM see a valid RPM signal.so test for spark first. The Main relay is what needs to be look at

My 96 ford ws 3.8 flashes code 52 also #4 cyl misfire i replaced coilpack, sparkplugs, sparkplugwires, egr valve, diff.feedback pressure sensor and i still get misfire in the #4 cyl. it runs good at first...

Yes. The Code 52 means the O2 sensor on Bank 2 Sensor 1 (Before Converter) has high resistance. These sensors can have a heating element in them to get the temperature up to 750 degrees which is suppose to help detect the fuel ratio in the burnt exhaust gases more effectively.

The sensors have a ground and are controlled by the ECM or PCM. Since your overdrive switch is affecting the operation of #4 cylinder, the PCM-powertrain control module connectors or wiring also uses a ground to make the O2 sensor work with the PCM supplying power. The switching occurs inside the PCM.

The problem with #4 cylinder may be related to the O2 sensor shorting the PCM. Replacing the O2 sensor before the Bank 2 converter would be a good start. Then check the wiring and connectors and ground for both the Overdrive switch, PCM, and O2 sensor. You want to have the wiring straightened out before changing the PCM and frying the new one.

I hope you have found my solution very helpful in solving your problem. Remeber to clear the trouble Code after installing the new O2 sensor.

I started the van and the check engine light came on and the enggine is missing bad. Any suggestions?

The reason the check engine light is on is due to the misfire, if you go to any auto part store they will scan the computer and give you the codes, the codes will tell you what cylinder is misfirng. this may be due to a bad sparkplug or sparkplugwire, i would start with a tune up if its been a while since you have had a tuneup.

Air only coms out dash vents, temp control and fan ok

There is an actuator that moves a door from one setting its failing or maybe the vaccume connections or hoses are disconnected. I just got a 2001 and if you remove the shroud around the controlls then the 2 screws pull the unit foward lokking on the bacs youll see 2 hoses make sure they are hooked up and not cracked anyware (you should at least hear air when the car is running and you move the vent control) if all looks good fallow it to the moter and check it there. Just did this 2 days ago and it was the hose...
Best of luck!
