Bought a used 99 jeep grand cherokee with 150,000 miles, engine was replaced with used one with 110,000 miles. cruise control does not work. it turns on and shows on the dash but will not engage.

If this is a 4.0, there is a vaccum line coming from the bulkhead connector, can follow the windsheild wiper lines to the driver's side, and if not connected should see it hanging. Connect it to the intake manifold. There is a small tube sticking out of the manifold, connect line to it. If that does not work, check your high mount stop light, if that is burned out will do what you described, light on, on dash but no engagement. I had the same problem, only BOTH happened a week apart to me. Hope this helps. I beleive is the same for v-8 engine.

2006 jeep grand cherokee - cruise light does not come on, and cruise does not engage. after cruise started not working, the cruise light came on briefly one more time.

Most likely a problem with the PCM (Powertrain Control Module). It may be malfunction or it may just need to be reset. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery for about a minute. If that doesn't work then go to the dealer and they will run a diagnostic test for about $95. If the PCM is the problem it will be covered under manufacture warranty for 8 years 80,000 miles.

Hope this helps.

2003 jeep grand cherokee cruise control not working.

Ok, the '03 Jeep Grand Cherokee uses a small vacuum line to control the servos. Since your light comes on, it's obviously getting power. 9 out of 10 times it's the vacuum hose.
Pop the hood and look on the passenger side towards the back for the engine coolant reservoir. It's most likely underneath it so you may have to remove the res. Check the vacuum hose and all vac. connections then check the electrical connections. If that's not the problem, check the cruise control connection to the throttle linkage.
If that still doesn't do it, you may need use scan tools and diagnostic procedures that are out of the scope of home mechanics.
Wish ya luck!

Cruise control stopped working

check brake switch under dash above the brake pedal. See if sensing wires are broken . or if it uses a duplicate switch sensor check it is engaging properly. Also check you tube on possible failures.
Also in the engine bay the cable from the accelerator petal will attach to the trottle on the engine. Check for another cable at this location from the cruise control and check the cable is not broken .

Check brake globes are functioning and are not blown as well.
