U need the clearance to work on top// to remove the lock ring and to lift the unit out the pump is about 12 to 14 inches long, just lowering it doesnt give u enough room to work while under the truck

95 gmc safari 4.3l just quit running, has compression, has spark, fuel psi is 10 when i turn it over

The fuel pressure should be alot higher im thinking around 60 psi but I dont remember exact. You most likely need a fuel pump. Its in the gas tank you have to drop the tank and change it out hopefully you dont have alot of fuel in it.

Changing fuel pump on a 2001 GMC safari van

Most of them ,you squeeze the bulk head ,the connector and pull, and wiggle them off,but they still use the ones it takes a tool to remove the lines, they are not expensive, and are available at the parts store,if they are plastic, then they more than likely squeeze to remove, but still are difficult to remove

How do i replace a fuel pump for a gmc safari

You do understand that its located inside the gas tank right? you have to drop the tank to replace the pump. first get van up on jack stands the higher the better, next try and get as much gas as posible out of tank, than unhook all fuel lines and electrical connections and filler hose, and last unbolt tank straps and tank will come down, its best to have some help when you drop it. After its out it perty strate forward just use a screwdriver and a hammer to turn the locking ring and the whole thing( pump and flote) will come out of the tank.

No power when hit the gas

The fuel presure should be at least 60- 66 psi key on engine off, and then drop some when started, if it doesn't go any higher than 50 psi that would explain your backfire concern. If it is low then the fuel pump is weak. I have also seen soot on the little wires inside the Mass Airflow Sensor cause a concern like this.

Up to you about grinding . Easier to drop tank and check all elctricals. Nephew didnt and had a short. Almost blew up. Had a similar problem with motor cutting off. My problem was a diode in the alternator
