Question about 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe

3 Answers

I have a 2003 Tahoe, and the engine light has come on (not flashing) it has been 2 days, and the only thing I have done was go through a car wash (automatic). I'm wanting to know if it may be the electrical system got wet or what? It has happened before a while back the light went off in a couple days. I checked the gas cap to be sure it was secure, I have used a cleaner that goes in your tank.

well if you went through an automatic car wash then likeliness of an engine sensor getting wet or unplugged from the pressure is highly unlikely as the hood is usually closed, but stranger things have happened. If your check engine light is on and is on solid, and you went through an automatic carwash, then perhaps some water trickled the hood from the openings, and get into the distributor...this may or may not always cause a rough running but will certainly trigger a check engine light, as its detecting a misfire in one or more cylinders...if the light hasn't reset itselft by now, then perhaps you can try to disconnect the battery for a little bit..go have a coffee and come back and reconnect the battery ground cable and try that...if the light still fails to go out, then you must take you truck to a repair shop to get the code scanned, and cleared...since the light is on solid and NOT flashing it won't be that big a deal to get it to a shop....good luck

Most auto parts stores will check your engine codes for free. Check them and see what codes pop up. Emission codes can pop up whenever and out of nowhere. But it could be 100 different things unrelated to what you've done recently.

SOURCE: Check Engine Light

There are many many problems that can cause your check engine lite to come on. Some of those problems will not let the lite go out until it is cleared with a handheld computer. (Even if the condition that caused the lite to come in, has cleared) But as far as the 2 comments go, a fuel injector cleaning would be a good invsement here. It is a good possibility that this is your problem and if it isn't, it is still very good for your engine performance and fuel consumption so wouldn't be a bad investment. If your vehicle is still under warrenty I would also talk to dealer about reading computer. Even if the check engine lite is not on, some codes will store in the computer that it came in and cleared so the dealer would be able to tell you what code came in to cause the lite to be on. It would at least be a starting point to look at for troubleshooting.

SOURCE: 2002 Impala - Check engine, tach flucuating, probs starting engin

I posted a solution for another person with an Impala that had a problem with the car intermittently not starting. If you can find that post and follow those instructions that will solve your not starting problem. As far as the check engine light coming on the other persons are correct. It is much better to go to an Autozone and have them pull the trouble codes. Once you have those and can post them then one of us can give you some advice as to how to solve the problem. You can also take it to a professional garage and they can check it out and give you more detailed one on one professional advice as to what the problem is. If you just guess at these things you can spend a lot of time, money, and frustration for nothing. Good luck!

Have a dealer or garage check your Oxygen (O2) sensor. As a quick fix, try disconnecting and reconnecting your car battery. Sometimes this will reset the check engine light.Good Luck!

SOURCE: My 2006 Chevy Avalanche's check engine light came

All these code's are to your transmission, your mech needs to do more then pull code's, he needs to look at date on sensor to transmission before opening.

P0740 - Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit

P0758 - Shift solenoid (B) electrical

P0785 - Shift timing solenoid

P0761 - Shift solenoid (C) performance or stuck off

I would try Trans - X first pores right in to trans.

I have to to replace a o2 sensor on my 05 Tahoe . I'm wondering will the engine light go out on its own or will i have to reset it . If i have to reset it is it something i can do my self or do i have to...

If the new sensor corrects the problem, the light will go out after a day or 2 of driving. Are you sure the sensor is bad? Do you have the trouble code that set the light?

The light is flashing because the engine is miss firing. The first thing I would try is replacing the distributor cap and rotor.

Check engine light is on, motor runs rough, sometimes stalls

Go to Advance or Auto Zone and have them run an obd scan on it and it will pin point why your light is on and could solve your problem. This is often done for free.

Dodge Caravan 2003 airbag and engine light

Sounds like the HVAC control head needs to be recalibrated. The procedure is fairly easy, Heres how its done:

Set Blower motor ON HIGH
Set Mode position to Panel
Set Temperature to Cold (Both slide pots if equipped)
Depress WASH and REAR WIPER button simultaneously for 5 Seconds (Until all LED's light)
All LED's will turn on for 5 Seconds
Calibration Test is running when REAR WIPER and INTERMITTENT are alternately flashing. Cooldown test is running if A/C and RECIRC are alternately flashing.
Acceptable results is REAR WIPER LED is the only LED flashing. Push Rear Wiper to exit.
After all tests have passed, Calibration Diagnostics and Cooldown can be run separately.

After that the lights should go out and everything should work properly as long as everything is in proper working order.

Good Luck
