Changing crankshaft sensor on 2002 nissan altima

I have a 2002 nissan altima. I am trying to change the crankshaft sensor. I've read different instructions from different forums on how to remove it but none has worked. I have no problem disconnecting wire connection but removing the sensor itself seems almost impossible. Do you have any recommendations for this situation?

But my problem is removing the bolt. I've read on wikianswers.com to removge the 10mm bolt use 1/4" drive ratchet with a 6" extension and a 10mm socket. It's impossible to use it because it's not enough space for the socket to fit onto the bolt. I've tried from the top but can't find a way to get it down there. Then i tried it from the side. Problem is there is only about 1/2" gap between the bolt and some other part on the engine.

You have to do it from the bottom. Hold your rachet with extension close to the motor mount. Once bolt is out use a long nose vise grip to plug sensor out. be care ful not to crack the plastic.

I have replaced many of these. What I find works is a small flat screw driver. Pry under the sensor bodyand turn at the same time. That works for me

I have a 2002 Nissan altima i took it to d the dealer and they said it was the starter and the idpm module , i changed that and it still wont start what should i do

when you say I changed that ,, does that mean you changed both ? if thats the case, you can check the starter relay , and also the ignition itself , Nissan has been having issues with the high flow meter sensor too,, that may be adding to your troubles,, and keep in mind that according to the forums I've read about these issues, not long after the IDPM module goes out,, people are having to replace the catalytic converters due to it dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust system

Where is the crankshaft and camshaft sensor located?

Here's some pics of my 2003 Altima Crankshaft Sensor. Often mistaken by the Camshaft Sensor because both are identical sensors. They are each located in different locations. I've seen diagrams with the WRONG labeling. Again, this is so confusing for even a mechanic to understand because both sensors carry the same part number which is rare. http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/members/digitaldxing-albums-2003-nissan-altima-crankshaft-position-sensor-picture331-2003-nissan-altima-crankshaft-position-sensor.html

Crankshaft and camshaft sensors location in nissan altima 2003

You are incorrect sir. There is a very good Youtube video showing you exactly where it is that is how I changed mine. The Crankshaft is located behind the engine block below and around from the cam sensor which is easly spotted looking at the engine. The crankshaft is in a difficult spot but once you figure out where it is it's easy...ish hope this helps

Has trouble turing over at start

Looks like an easy job.

Crankshaft Position Sensor: Description and Operation
CKP SENSOR (POS)
Component Description
The crankshaft position sensor (POS) is located on the cylinder block rear housing facing the gear teeth (cogs) of the signal plate at the end of the
crankshaft. It detects the fluctuation of the engine revolution.
The sensor consists of a permanent magnet and Hall IC. When the engine is running, the high and low parts of the teeth cause the gap with the sensor
change.
The changing gap causes the magnetic field near the sensor to change.
Due to the changing magnetic field, the voltage from the sensor changes.
The ECM receives the voltage signal and detects the fluctuation of the engine revolution.

Where crank shaft and camshaft?

The camshaft position sensor is located on the timing cover, near the top of the motor. The crankshaft position sensor is located on the same timing cover near the crankshaft. Just a side note, more than likely the crankshaft position is your issue and it's under a recall from Nissan and they will replace it for free.
