air bags solenoid is stuck open releasing air this happens when you raise then lower car in normal working mode valve opens closes as need to maintain ride hight when car is jacked up it thinks the bags have been filled emtys bags when you lower car down to readjust height you need new bags and a new compressor it will burn up trying to fill fill fill when it cannot suncore industries around 370.00 for everthing 2 to 3 hrs to replace
I know that you are trying to fix that air ride, but i put these replacement springs on my 93 towncar. Fixed the compressor problem (eliminated it) and cost a whole lot less. The install is kinda hard if you've never dropped a rear end before. Need a good tool set, a couple jacks, and jack stands to get it done. Check it out. Even having a mechanic install them would be cheaper than replacing a compressor.
remove all brake components off of that side, pound out studs towards center of the car with a hammer. place the new studs through the back of the axle and then use washers that just fit over the studs for spacers, and put the lugnut on the stud and tighten until the new stud is seated on the back flange of the axle. remove the lugnut and repeat for the rest of the studs.
Besides removing the rear drum and taking out the bolts that hold the dust cover. You will have to remove the cover from the rear end housing. The axel has a retanning clip inside.
That means there is a leak and/or malfunction on the air ride suspension system. You need to check the whole thing From the compressor all the up to the shocks. Most common problem is just the hoses that dry up, crack and leak after a few years. After all its just rubber so it's not invulnerable. But it can also be the air compressor that is not working, or the shocks themselves that are shot. In most cases, only the back end of the car has air ride, and the compressor itself is either in the trunk, or under the car in the rear end in 99% of the cases, so it should shorten the search for the system a bit.
you need to pull the cover off the rear diff. remove the rear brake drums or rotors, remove the bolt that holds the pin in the rear end, remove the pin, remoce the c clips, pull the axles out. remove the seal. you can do this by using one ofthe axles to pry the seal out. install the new seal and reassemble. use rtv sealant to reseal rear diff and fill with about 3 - 3 1/2 qts gear lube-may take synthetic
if it is the seal, you will have to remove the caliper and rotor, remove the differential cover and remove the bolt and pin inside the diff carrier housing. push in the axle and remove the axle clip and pull out the axle use a seal puller or prybar to remove seal reverse the steps to assemble
