Its very probably a bad circuit board behind the Rev guage and Speedo. Before you replace it check that the wiring harness is connected firmly.

Whats wrong with Helen?

The speed sensor might be bad. I used to own a 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse with the same symptons. The car will start, but will not pass the 1st or 2nd gear, the speedometer will be at 0. I replaced the speed sensor and all the problems went away.

I put my car in drive and will not move why?

it can only be 2 things.
1: transmission slip
2: engine died, or has weak power.

if you know what engine rpm is, you can solve this riddle.
A: RPM RISES FAST, MPH (SPEED) DONT. BAD TRANNY
B: Rpm sicks low, car dont move, bad engine (weak, or 100 other reasons. but (bad engine power)

it be impossible for me to express RPM with sounds,
so only an RPM gauge works. does your car have one.? "dash"?
im too lazy to look but, most cars have sub models that dont have this
important gauge.

95 gmc sierra won't hold steady rpm

Sounds like wiring problems with the engine harness.
The oil pressure not working could cause the hard starting problem.
The idle problem could be a faulty idle air control valve or a vac leak.
I would start with the check engine light and find out what the codes are.

98 honda civic speedometer not working. it will jump around and then settle at 20.

It's a common problem with the civic's, the speedo is bad, you can try findind one in the bone yard but it may be bad to, the dealer is expensive, In my 95 civic I turn on my tom tom and it has the speed on it, all the other gauges work fine, the odometer will work fine, just the speedo.

My 02 sentra ser spec V runs fine if it is under a load and while accelarating but at an idle it keeps jumping up between 1000 and 2500 rpm for a few seconds before finally settling in at around 1200 rpm. ...

Idle speed control valve located on your throttle body. It has the engine searching for idle, internal plunger is not backing down. This will cause the check engine light to light . if you wont, i think they still offer free check engine light checks at auto zone, i now they still do around here

2000 Buick LeSabre Engine dies suddenly after car sits overnight and driven normally on first trip of the day in the morning. Engine temp. gauge rises to 162-164, then stops rising. It is then or shortly...

Hi! The MAF (mass air flow) sensor is surely faulty. The MAF has big contribution on the engine performance specially on the idling an vacuum supply. If the MAF is faulty the rpm will drop eratically or die. Regarding the overheating problem, you may want to check the radiator blower for it may be tripping that sometimes it works and sometimes won't. This can be a good cause. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!
