Car won't shift out of park while turned on

I have a 2004 ford focus that worked fine this afternoon. Later I turned the car on and tried to shift out of park, but it wouldn't budge. I tried interlock access hole on the console as per the user manual and the car moved out of park, but when the car is turned on, will not move from park again. The back brake lights do not work either...is this a blown fuse or a bigger issue? Thank you...

YEP BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FUSE IS BLOWED.WHEN ITS BLOWED IT WILL KEEP BRAKE TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK SOLENOID FROM WORKING.YOU CANT GET CAR OUT OF PARK.IT NEEDS POWER TO WORK.FUSES BLOWS AT BRAKE SWITCH NO POWER.YOU WILL NOT GET IT OUT OF PARK.SO CHECK FUSE THAT COULD BE YOUR PROBLEM.

Try the fuses for brake lights but as for the gear box stuck in park thats a biger problem

The sensor from brake switch to tranny gear selector is faulty. It will have to be tested with an ohmmeter. The switch is most likely faulty

2003 Ford Mustang won't shift out of park
Could be the brake switch, or the shift lock solenoid.
Both components would need to be tested. And you may be able to shift out of park if you try before you turn the key switch to the on position.

If the temperature is low, then the engine might have struck up. You need to give heat and then try starting. If you still face the problem, then open the front and check if any wires have been cut off or else call or an mechanic to solve the problem,

2008 Saturn Vue Stuck In Park. The car starts fine however when you try to shift out of park the shifter is locked up and won't budge. You have to restart the car multiple times to get the shifter...
these have a safety system so the shifter won`t go into any gear unless the brake is pushed(indicating someone sitting in the drivers seat),if the brake lights aren`t working this indicates that the fuse that operates the shift lock solenoid and brake lights is not working and needs replacing.check the fuses and replace the fuse and things will probably return to normal.

My 2001 ford focus is stuck in park, stepping on brake, does not release it from park, and brake lights are not working.........
Without the brake lights working the shift interlock can't release. Turn the key just off the "locked" position and you should be able to shift to neutral and start the engine then shift to drive or reverse. Just don't shift back into park until you are parking the car to leave it.
