Use a razer blade and clean the glass off. Next buy some super glue and then clean the metal plate off and center the metal plate in the windshiled so that you have it where it was or slightly higer or lower to yourt likeing, then being sure you have the metal plate facing the right way put super glue on the center of the metal plate and all around lightly coat the plate leaving 1/4 all around the outter edge to from getting glue on the outside of the windshield. Have some alochol to wipe off any extra that may come ouy when you apply the meter tothe windshield. Be sure to apply the glue evenly and sparingly and a drop in the center of the area where you are going to install the metal plate. Next put the plate on the center of the dot of glue on the windshield and hold it there for two minutes before you let go, after two minutes let it stand for 30 minutes before sliding the mirror onto the plate. you will see a set screw that needs to be loosened before installing the plate. Do a practice run without glue so you are sure that you can adjust the mirror for you and others that might drive the rig. Also be sure when you hit the tab for the night postion that it still works and is able to be adjusted. if the metal plate gets on crooked and you need to remove it and re-place it then use a pair of plyers with a piece of cloth on the plate and twist the plate to remove it from the windshield.

Reglue the rear view mirror. How do I remove the metal disc to glue on the window? Every other one I've done their was a set screw. When you remove the screw the small metal seat slides out. This one is...

They changed it. You have to slide the mounting bracket out the bottom of the mirror case. It's a tight fit but the mirror assembly will slide off, toward the roof. Once you have it off you will see a small slot on the bottom of the mounting bracket. Slide a small screwdriver in the slot and push toward the mounting plate (windshield). The plate that goes on the windshield should pop off. Hope this helps.

Replacing the rear view mirror on a Ford Explorer is easy. The only obstacle you might encounter is fear of breaking the glued metal plate off the windshield. Do not sweat it. You can buy glues at the auto parts store to reattach the mirror to the windshield (Difficulty: Moderately Easy).

Instructions:
  1. Tap gently at the base of the mirror where it slides on over the metal plate glued to the windshield and pull upward. Some rear view mirrors have a small Allen screw that tightens the base of the rear view mirror to the metal plate. Disconnect the electrical plugs if your rear view mirror has them.
  2. Pull the rear view mirror clear of the metal plate. Clean around the metal plate glued to the windshield. If the metal plate has come off because of harsh weather or from hammering too hard at it, reattach it with glue designed for this job.
  3. Clean the area where you will be attaching the metal plate on the windshield. Apply the glue evenly on the surface of the metal plate that will go against the window. Be sure to clean and scrape off all the old glue before applying the new glue. Gently push the metal plate against the windshield in the spot you wanted it and hold tight for five minutes.
  4. Wait a day before putting the base of the mirror or replacement rear view mirror onto the metal plate. Do not force the base over the plate. Forcing it will likely dislodge it again. Press firmly until it will not slide along the grooves of the metal plate. Reconnect your electrical plugs and tighten the Allen screw if your new mirror has one. Adjust the mirror according to your safe viewing preference

Hope help with this (remember rated this help). Good luck.

How do you remove the spring clip on the rear view mirror?

Most rear view mirrors are secured on a pivot point to an arm and that arm is then secured on a pivot point to the base. The base is then attached to the windshield anchor either via a screw (metal housing) or it will have a lil tab (plastic housing) that you pull back and slide the entire assembly off of the windshield anchor

Re-assembly of 99 Blazer mirror to windshield

This is a relatively easy task, the bulk of the work has been for you. The rear view mirror assembly simply slides onto that metal block that was glued to your windshield. Your mirror mount (the part that slides onto the metal bracket) may be cut differently or shaped different from the rest of that part. you simply need to line that up with the metal mount on your windshield. slide the mirror on and tighten down the set screw if you have one. I've listed the steps below

1. find the base mount for your mirror (this is the bottom of the mirror that sits on the windshield)

2. look for a cut out or flat part of the mirror base.

3. line the flat part of the mirror base with the metal mount bracket on the windshield.

4. slide the mirror onto the metal bracket (this may require you to wiggle while you slide the mirror onto the metal bracket).

5. tighten the set screw on the mirror base ( this is important because your mirror will vibrate off the bracket if you don't.

Note some mirrors slide from the bottom of metal mount bracket and some slide from the top. it sort of depends on the manufacturer and/or the way the bracket was installed.

Hope this helps

How do i get the metal piece off the review mirrow-96 caprice the thing fell off i cant figure how the metal comes out and it doesnt have a place where you can use a allen wrench

I'm guessing that you mean the mounting plate that attaches to the windshield. The plastic cover over that piece of the mirror comes off. It slides off toward the ceiling end of the mirror. With that off, you will see a small slot on the bottom of the mirror and mounting bracket. Slide a small screwdriver, like a sewing machine screwdriver into that slot. There is a clip in there that needs to be pressed and the plate will come off. The clip should press toward the windshield.

Rearview mirror fell off windshield! Not broken...

the mirror should simply slide over the metal mount (button) that is glued to the window.

loosen the set screw on the mirror mount...

hold the rear view mirror mount on the glass just above the metal mount (wide end of plastic opening facing down)

slide it into place...
secure it by tightening down set screw you loosened earlier.
