A 2003 chevy silverado has a timing chain. In order to change this, you will have to remove the fan and clutch, the water pump, both serpentine belts, and the crankshaft pulley. You cannot reuse the bolt for the crank pulley, so you will have to buy a new one. You will also have to replace the gaskts for the timing chain. Anyways, once those are off, you remove the cover for the timing chain, and you will be able to unbolt and remove the timing chain and sprockets. Note where everything is, so you can return it to the exact same place. Once that is done, put everything back like you saw it when you took it apart, and you should be good to go. Remember to get new gaskets for the water pump, (you should replace the thermostat while you're in there as well) and make sure your belts are in good shape. Also check your idler pulleys and tensioners to make sure they're not worn out. Good luck, and enjoy your time under the hood.

Replacing water pump & timing belt on 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T. Easy to replace front main seal, too?

oil seal failure is the main killer of rubber timing belts . Oil can come from the crankshaft seal --the cam shaft seal/s and the hydraulic belt adjuster.. So if you have the front off and am replacing the timing belt then it is fools economy not to replace the seals and any idler pulleys at the same time.

Does the timeing belt have to be on for the crank to turn the cam when instilling the timeing belt?

Are you replacing a broken timing belt? Or are you replacing a belt because it's due by miles? If the belt is broken, i strongly suggest inspecting for bent valves. Daewoo is notorious for bending all valves and breaking valve guides in the cylinder head when the timing belt breaks. The broken belt is also common.

Replacing the belt, belt tensioner and waterpump (recommended). about 130.00 in parts, some special tools patience and time. NOT for a Beginner. If put together wrong major damage will result. If belt failed while driving major damage has resulted.

At what mileage do you change a timing belt in a 2007 sonata, 99% of mileage is highway.

Most car manufacturers recommend replacing timing belts after 60,000 miles. I have seen cars go 200,000 on a timing belt. But I wouldn't recommend that. Personally, that Max I would go, even if 99% of your driving is highway, is 80,000 miles. I'm not 100% sure about the sonata, but if it is front wheel drive and your replacing the timing belt, think about replacing the water pump at the same time. That is always good practice to remember.

How do I set the timing when replacing the timing belt.

If you are just replacing the belt because it's worn. Carefully remove the old belt and replace. no timing will be neccesary

Do timing belts in 1994 Ford Escorts ever need replacing?

No they are not. The reason your manual does not saying anything about replacing the timing belt is because 9 times out of 10 most people do not know how to replace the timing belt and make sure that it is on properly and the timing is correct. Also the time belt should be changed around 115,000 miles. But it is never bad to go ahead and get it done if they already did it or are going to

I need instructions on replacing the timing belt

1. Remove the Alternator Belt.
2. Remove the Water Pump Pulley
3. Remove the Air Conditioner Belt and Power Steering Belt.
4. Remove the Crankshaft Pulley.
5. Remove the timing belt cover
6. Remove the timing belt tensioner pulley.
7. Remove the Timing Belt.
8. (If Replacing) Remove Idler Pulley.
Installation is reverse of removal. Keep a close eye on the timing marks on the cam sprockets to make sure you don't knock anything out of whack.

I would strongly recommend replacing the water pump while you are replacing the timing belt. (The water pump usually comes in the timing belt kit.) Otherwise you are going to have to do this all over again when your water pump goes out. Good Luck.
