Could be a few things , bad plugs, and the PVC valve might need to be replaced, check the air filter to see if it is cleaned, and air cleaner.

Change major tune up parts ba gas milage ,will changing the fuel pump and changing out the gas tank help. 245,000

A Tune-up is a poorly used word

Spark Plugs are the only part that restores
your engine to where it was designed

ALL Tuning has been done by the On-Board-
Computer since 1981 on GM & 1983 for Ford & Chry
(OBD1) (OBD2 1996 thru 2011)

There is no major tune-up vs something else

You only replace a Fuel Pump when it fails

Why is my 2002 Chevy Cavalier horrible on gas? I am only getting 17 miles to the gallon. I have a CNG tank but no filling station close by. Could the weight of the tank be affecting my gas mileage?

Cars are just like airplanes. Weight will always have an effect on fuel milage. Check your tire inflation. We find, in our shop , that low tire inflation in the biggest cause of poor milage. (beside a lead foot like mine)

I have 2002 ford focus new spark plug and wire and air filter and fuel filter snd i still have a very poor gas milage

It could be 2 things. The grade of gas you're using and / or your style of driving. Bump up to the next level of gas and don't put your foot into it as much. Get off the gas earlier when coming to a stop. I have a full size SUV and I average 24 MPG city.

Poor gas milage

Gas milage will vary, depending on the manner in which you drive, also poor gas milage could be due to poor maintenance. Replace the PCV valve, the oxygen sensors, the fuel filter, plugs and wires, and have the injectors cleaned, switch to synthetic oil should improve the milage. .

******* gas

If it has a history of poor gas mileage I'd check the axle ratio. There is a two digit code on the driver side door frame which designates the lgear ratio. For example and 18 is a 3.08, a 19 is a 3.55. I found these once on the net. The higher the ratio the poorer the gas milage but you should have more power.
If this developed recently I'd check the air filter. If it smokes you may have worn rings. Your temp sensor to the computer may be sending a "cold" temp to enrich the mixture. Your brakes may be partially engaged, especially the parking brake which may bind due to corrosion in the cable. If it seems to run well but lacks power you may have a clogged catalytic converter.
Hope this getes you starteed.
