I have a 2007 Honda Civic (manual), with very low mileage. Recently, my emergency brake lever has been hard to release, and today the lever just moves freely up and down. When I pull the lever up the emergency brake light comes on and the emergency brake works, but the handle will not stay up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Either the spring is stretched out or the e-brake connections on rear drums are stuck. It is common. EIther you have to use or ebrake all the time, or not at all

There are two cables in housings that come from the rear wheels and are exposed to water from the road which results in rusted cables and interiors of the housings. Replace both parts on each side. Make sure that you get new rubber boots for the open ends of the cables.

Hi
Thanks for using FixYa. In Jaguar XKR the parking brake is controlled electronically unlike the cable ones. The voltage applied to the electronic Park Brake module is
applied at the same time you start the engine, consequently on a very cold day
the battery will be far less efficient and due to the extra power required to
start a very cold 6 cylinder engine the voltage will fall.
Although this reduced voltage will quite happily start the car it will trip out
the Parking brake. To help avoid this problem happening again switch the
ignition to position 2(position just prior to starting) and press the chrome handbrake
tab down while having your foot on the brake. The brakes will be released, the
park brake light on the dash will go out and you can now start the car.
On the new XKR module the electronic handbrake is not activated by the gear
shift as in the later S models so you can start the car and then release the brake
when the engine is running.
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.
Thanks
