Check engine means exactly what it says. ck oil, water and all belts. if all ok take it to a natoinal auto parts chain and have them read the codes.most do this for free

Did you check your oil level? If it is full then there may be air getting into the pump somehow. This happened to me years ago when the pickup tube cracked that went to my oil pump. Could become something that will kill your engine.
THe cpu has read some parameters that are coming from all the sensors that it continually reads and found faults > have the codes read to find which sensor is failing
The check engine light is because all check engine light codes are caused by components that affect emissions. It's not actually an engine problem, it's a problem with either your O2 sensor, MAF sensor, fuel/air ratio, pyrometer, or exhaust.
