find a good transmission garage, but before that check atf level, cable going to shifter etc, if no fault found prepare for the worse $$$$, sorry man your not the only one mine gave at 70000miles, id rather have it fixed by a good tranny shop than buy a used or new tranny. it will be replaced with modefied parts, makers study this problems and modify the parts make them better. compare price of repair and having a new one, remember you still have to pay labor replacing your tranny, tranny shops usually give 5 years warranty. remanufactured tranny i would suggest but first compare price with new.
I can tell you that if the car will not rev over 2000 rpms then theres another problem and how can they diagnose the tranny when the cars engine has no power, A plugged cat- converter would cause this type of problem making it seem like tranny problems but it may not be . i have seen a converter that breaks apart and somtimes it pulgs the hole blocking the exhaust flow and reducing the engine power. this tranny is a pretty good tranny on these older cars, three years ago it was rebuilt then i would try to get another shop to check this problem.good day
you can get a new bell housing to fit the tranny to bolt to the new engine. you should be able to order one on-line. you will just have to make sure the tranny will handle the new engine. you will have to drop the tranny to put the new bell housing to the transmission. its not a very hard job, maybe a couple of hours
You put tranny fluid in the place you take out tranny stick to check tranny fluid level. You need a funnel. The power steering is the same. take off the cap and it has lines to tell you if it needs fluid. Add power steering fluid there.
first you need to buy transmission fluid new filter and new gasket.you need 11.4 pints of transmision fluid.raise front of vechicle.set parking brake.block both back wheels.besure support vechicle weight with jack stands. get a drain pan.if your transmission pan dont have a drain plug.loosen rear pan bolts a few turns.remove the front and side transmission pan bolts. let fluid drain.remove tranny pan. then clean old gasket material from transmission and pan carefully.dont scratch or damage surface.clean old tranny bolts using brake cleaner or buy new tranny bolts.you have to put a tiny film of rtv silicone on tranny bolts so they wont leak.carefully remove old tranny filter and put on new filter.clean all grease grim away from tranny pan it should be **** and span because.you might need a little gasket adhesive to hold gasket in place while putting pan back on transmission.to line up bolt holes.loosely put all bolts in you have to move pan a little to get holes line up.when all is finish put tranny fluid back in.besure you put 11.4 pints back in that about 6.5 quarts. make sure tranny fluid level is right before driving vechicle.l
you will most probably need a beefed up tranny to take the power of the engine, I have just installed a 350 supercharged chevy motor in my sons car with a Turbo 350 transmission and a shift kit which I have been told by an auto trans mechanic may not take the power of that engine.
It is costing him $1500 australian to have it reconditioned so I hope it will survive the rides
Check your pinion angle. I bought my car from a guy who changed the tranny upwards of 6 times. i figured that the stock trannycouldn't handle the power but as i checked into it, my pinion angle was wrong. I changed my bushings and put new rear control arms on. Knock on wood its worked longer than any other tranng. Check to see if your leaking out of your tail-shaft on your tranny and if you are i believe that the rear bushing on your tranny is bad as well and that may cause vibration. Also i heard from a guy that the urethane bushings in the back (which I have as well) may cause a problem with your welds that hold the spot where the control arms mount up at. Check into a torque box. I've had no problems but I'm just warning you.
