There are two 02 sensors on yor exhast system. One before the muffler and another after the cat converter. The one one after the cat conv is the one that trips the lamp. The converter is either failing or your emmissions are excessive and the converter can't burn them off. If you feel the cap and vapor recovery is associated with your problem, It is possible if the vapr recovery solenoid is dumping to much into the engine. So, Have the vapor valve chk'd then go for the #2 02 sensor if it doesn't clear the light. Good Luck _Ned_

ENG. LIGHT ON CODES PO 442 ANDPO 445 IS SHOWING UP ON SCANER

The PO 442 code is an EVAP system small leak, either in the evaporative system or cooling. Sometimes this will occur after a drenching rain and remain until the diagnosis code is reset, usually will disappear after you read the codes. If not, a dealer can reset the code system via the radio believe it or not. PO 445 is similar, an EVAP system code but is usually related to gas vapors being sent to the engine rather than through the atmospheric venting system. Check the gas cap system here first, a gas cap not properly tightened (3 click) will sometimes cause this. Also, look to the spark system wiring harness or purge control solenoid.

2004 jeep grand cherokee code 442/455

OBD code P0442 Small EVAP leak detected you may need to check the EVAP canister under the vehicle and the purge valve as well check for cracks on the canister or the purge valve and check all the rubber hoses connected to them foe cracks or holes. If you find any damage parts replace them. P0455 which means a large EVAP leak is sometimes referred as the gas cap leak check your gas cap and secure it tight if you still have the code change the gas cap hope this helps after you find and fix the problems get the vehicle to a shop and they will use an OBD scan tool to clear the codes.

How to fix problem for code # po 441 for 1996 nissan maxima

Hi there:
This indicates that a part of the EVAP control system is no longer functioning correctly. The EVAP system consists of many parts, including (but not limited to) the gas cap, fuel lines, carbon canister, purge valve, and other hoses. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

I suggest replacing the gas cap with preferably one from the Nissan dealer, or OEM equivalent, then clear these codes by disconnecting the negative battery cable for about a minute then drive it normally; if the codes come back, this may take a couple of days, you most likely have to have the system tested for leaks.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Engine light on cleared and came back on

Evap Codes. You got the codes. Leaks. Now check the entire system. May be a cracked or loose hose. If not, check valves,switches.solenoids. If nothing you can find or are familiar with on site, you will need professional help and possibly a pressure test, vacuum test, smoke test etc,to find the problem.

I Own 98 dodge Dakota check Engine light, code PO 442 Evap Emission Control System Leak (small). Gas fill pipe is rusted, Should flapper hold back air with gas cap removed?

No the flap inside the fuel filler pipe is just an anti theft device to make it more difficult to siphon fuel out of the tank. The most likely cause for the code it the fuel cap itself. If you don't get the gas cap tight after you fuel up, it can set a computer code and turn on the Check Engine Light. After you check to make sure the cap is on tight, clear the engine code and see if it comes back on. If it does then have the fuel cap tested to make sure that it doesn't have a vaccuum leak.

OBD codes 442 & 455

Check all of your EVAP lines and the charcoal canister. Also check the lines and overflow line from the gas cap to the gas tank.

P0440 code on 2002 PontiacGrandPrix

There could be a few things wrong, this is a problem in the evap system, the evap system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicles fuel system, try taking your gas cap off and putting it back on, reset the code and drive the car for a few days, it's not uncommon for the gas cap to give off this code. if the code comes back after a few days of driving then the problem go'es a little deeper than the gas cap, it could be a bad purge solenoid, or a plugged carbon canister, among other things, also look for damaged or disconnected hoses around the purge sloenoid, you might have to check for leaks in the hoses in the evap system, i hope this helps you find the problem, good luck.

Error codes 442 and 456 on 2003 Chrysler Town and Country

Could be the gas cap.  Do you fill the tank with the engine running?
Otherwise, check the hoses near the Evap canister.  I have 2003 T&C and had the small leak and large leak codes.  I looked at the evap cansiter and the hose coming from the fuel tank vapor line had a huge crack in it, to the point it had fallen off the evap caniser.  I trimmed the end of the hose and reconnected and voila, no codes.
The evap canister is on the driver's side of the van, underneath, slightly behind the drivers seat.
BTW, to clear the codes without an OBDII reader, remove the negative cable for 5-10 minutes (15 to be safe).  The computer resets and clears the codes, except for one that it sets saying loss of power to the memory.
