Your key has a programable security micro chip inside it. It is either and embedded chip or a transferable one in a **** shell type key.
Some dealers may have generic blanks and cut them to code with a laser cutter. If it is a **** shell type key with touch pad buttons, they simply reinstall the touch pad when equipped. If not the new key must be programmed to the cars security system
There are online sites on ebay, including one in Florida who gaurantees his work and genuine parts, but I would strongly recommend against a generic key online.
Company name would be helpful - does lexus do them themselves?
Yes what I meant in the response above is some dealers as in Lexus Dealerships have the cutting machine and generic key blanks in stock. There was not a company listed on the ebay site I saw. I had the touch pad removed from my old key and installed in a replacement unit for under $100
