If the engine is running hot you may be low on coolant. Check this first. If coolant level ok, the rad fan may not be working to cool the engine. If the AC is operational, when you turn it on, the radiator fan should come on telling you the fan motor is ok. You still may have an issue with a fan control related to temperature. This can be caused by a fan relay/wiring/temp sensor/ecm. Make sure the thermostat is functioning properly as well
Hey Alex ! Try this. Make sure the fan does not turn on for any reason.
-Lift hood
-Start car
-let engine get hot
-observe as engine gets hot just sitting there idleing if at any time the fan switches on.
as the engine gets very hot...may take 7-10minutes....the fan should switch on.
If not, check the switching box for the fan itself; it has a brain box that controls when the fan turns on.
Its kinda like a thermostat, but the one you are familiar with just open to let coolant flow, not telling
the fan to switch on...its different.
You can take the hot wire from the fan and hook it directly to battery power. this will rule out
the fan's motor is good to begin with. otherwise check all the fuses that drive the power to the fan.
Overheating or just hot? Your temp sender sends signal to the computer that sends a signal to the fan relay that turns the fan on. You can hotwire the fan motor to the battery to see if it runs. if not that's the problem. Otherwise follow through by checking sensor and relay.
the fan may be bad but you can find the hot side of the plug and run a hot to the battery and see if the fan comes on. if it doesent you know you have a bad fan if it does you can run a wire to the fuse panel so that it comes on when the car does and shuts off when you shut the car off
