My 1997 chevy tahoe will not start without starting fluid. I hear the fuel pump running and have changed the fuel pressure regulator already and the fuel filter. The pump is only a year old. Have checked for fuel pressure upon starting and it is really low and sometimes there is none, but my truck runs fine once it's started and if I drive it for a few miles and turn it off it will start on it's own (without starting fluid)as long as it's only turned off for 5 to 10 minutes. Can you help?? any suggestions what might be wrong?

IVE HAD PLENTY OF THESE GO OUT EVEN A MONTH LATER. AS FAR AS THE STARTING FLUID JUST TRY AND CYCLE KEY BUT KEEP IT FROM TURNING STATER OVER. TURN ON AND OFF ABOUT 3 TO 5 TIMES IT SHOULD BUILD ENOUGH PRESSURE TO START. TO START MINIMUN PRESS IS 55PSI.

New fuel lines
New gas filter
New housing for the fuel pump. Everything wiring grounds filter.
New fuel pump 10 months old.

All brand new of last week.
Dam truck will start but barly on the 1st try.
when running it sounds wining cools down fine but when you punch the gas pedal truck dies on 2000.00 Rpms unless you get it over by featuring it will die.
I ran a fuel presure test I come up with 50 pounds that weak but enough to run it.
Should be 60 to 66.
i ran a code scan i come up with EGR which I replace or it's leaking air.
Next was O2 senor which I do not no if it's down or up hill one.
Last O 2 senor on the castaic.
No check engine light.
How do you no
it's not the Map senor

Or Should I replace the pump again.

1998 chevy tahoe 4x4 wont start. not getting fuel to throttle body. its not a fuel pump relay i tried it. it will start if i pour gas in the throttle body

fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator. When you turn the key do you hear fuel pump run? If not odds are the pump is bad.

My 1997 chevy tahoe is hard to start, I changed the fuel filter and spark plugs but it still takes a lot of cranking before it will start

the pressure regulator may be leaking. pull he vac line and see if its wet. wet is bad. Also these fuel pump connectors are known to overheat from poor connections. Do a search on gm fuel pump repeat failures and overheating connectors. Also the fuel pump could be leaking down so the line needs to be primed. Try cycling the key about 3 to 5 times before you start it. The pump will prime for 3 seconds each time before shutting off. If this helps the problem is the fuel pump.

1999 chevy tahoe 5.7 wont start in the am without starting fluid but as long as you start it every 1/2 hr or so it starts fine. runs good once started any suggestions?

check fuel pressure. If its marginal then replace the pump. These trucks are touchy on fuel pressure. Just a couple psi low and they do exactly this. In the morning cold is when you need max fuel. Be sure to replace the harness also as these tend to lead to repeated pump failures when faulty, which is pretty common

My 1997 won't start without starter fluid. I can hear the fuel pump working at start up and after I start it with starter fluid it drives fine and will start on it's own if I drive it for more then 10...

I have a 98 that had the same problem and it was my intake that was bad, I would try replacing the regulator first you can pick one up for about $53.00 at your local parts store. If thats not the problem get your fuel pressure checked it should be around 60 to 65 PSI.

Vacuum line for fuel pressure regulator 98 Tahoe

Was there a hose on the old one? If not, you don't have one. It is most likely your fuel pump if you are not getting fuel.

Dont know whether its the fuel pump or something else

How did you determine its not the fuel pump?It could be the fuel filter but I dont think so.Your truck requires a certain amount of fuel pressure to start and a different amount to run properly. You would have to check what your fuel pressure is to say its not the pump.It should be something like 65 psi to start and 55psi to run.Even though you can hear the pump come on when turn the key it might not be putting out enough pressure to start the truck.I realize im a little late with this post but it might helpfull to others.

replace your MAP sensor(manifold absolute pressure) the map sensor is the computer for your fuel pressure regulator telling how much pressure. Unless your tahoe runs like **** going up hill than it inevitably your fuel pump
