The clutch fan will usually make more noise immediately after startup and then quiet down. If this is bothersome and you think it may be going bad, replace the clutch fan. It is threaded directly to the pulley with reverse threads (clockwise to loosen). If you want to do away with it entirely, there are fan delete kits that work well, I drove mine all summer in PA (USA) with no clutch fan and no overheating issues.

start with the common things. You will be surprised with how clogged air filters can alter the peformance of your vehicle. I would start by checking air filters. when was the last time you serviced your e36? you might also need to check fuel pump pressure.

This is my golf tdi 90 bhp, it's been a great car for 4 months but now a problem has occurred, basically the car when idle if revved to upto about 3k revs will now and again start to vibrate very hard

two things could affect the running.the failure of an injector .the turbo sounds too noisey .start with the basics tune etc.take it to the experts.

Bmw E36 1995 ,engine noise problem.

ck for excessive play in the electric cooling fan blades - theses usually only come on when the car is hot or ac is used. You can also check this by locating the fan relay(s) and removing them when you hear the noise.

Bmw e36 328i cuts out at idle, wont krank, runs rough at idle.

The battery could still be bad and if you don't have a totally good battery in the car it won't run right. Take to one of the parts stores and they can check it for you for free. Probably as simple as a battery.

Engine cuts out

BMW CUTS OUT
A few things to check.
  1. Is fuel pump delivering enough fuel.
  2. Is injectors clean. Perhaps dirt in fuel. replace fuel filter
  3. Air leakage at top air intake of manifold at ICV idle control valve. Two hoses inside this housing prone to perishing.
  4. Throttle position sensor faulty.
  5. Mass air flow sensor faulty.
  6. ICV faulty or dirty. comon fault on older e36.
Havent done it yet but ICV is easy to clean according to internet. instruction available at bmw e36 blog. All off above can be tested by yourself according to manual.

Engine revs realy loud

You have a faulty thermostatically controlled fan clutch. Same thing happened to mine. As soon as you start the car, the fan is always turning, and the speed increases as the RPM is increased.
