2001 ''Y'' reg mx5 (mk 2.5) 1.8 sport refuses to start. 55,000 miles. The engine turns over ok but wont fire. Serviced just over a month ago so new plugs and filters fitted then.
Problem first showed immediately after a refuel. Car refused to start at pumps. AA couldn't find anything obviously wrong and got it going using ''easy start'' spray. The car then started fine for a week. Then, one night last week when I went out to start the car (after it sitting outside for about 24 hours) it simply refused to fire and hasn't ever since.

Have you checked that you have power to the coil on cranking? You may also want to check wether you have a good strong spark at the spark plug.It could be an ignition module breaking down.If you have no power to the coil you may need to change the ignition relay. Its close to the battery.

Have you run the car without fuel? There must not be any air in the fuel line... Blead the fuel line of air and try to start it. There should be bleader screws under the hood....

I think you're battery has just enough life to turn the engine but not enough to fire it (low voltages tend to mess with the ignition etc)
Stick your battery on a charger (or it might be getting old and need replacing) until you can measure a reasonable 12.5V across the terminals and give it another go. The battery may have been on it's last legs anyway and decided that the punishment was just a bit too much...
I often find I can push start mine if it suffers from a similar act of forgetfulness. I then have to keep my foot on the accelerator for a reasonable period of time to keep the revs up and charge the battery (sometimes it takes a day or so to come completely right again without stalling out at lights etc). The best trick is to take it for a bit of a high-speed burn up some range passes - after it's been flogged for a couple of hours, it'll be much more happy!
Hope this helps,
Sherwin
