I had a probem ike that with a 91 jetta i got at the auction. It would run a few min then shut off. 1 hour or so later it would start again. I replaced the fuel filter but it still shut off. I then looked into the ignition system. I found that the ignition coil would get hot after a few min and would stop sparking. I replaced ignition coil, runs fine now. Check your ignition coil. Its under the hood driverside near the wiper.

My first guess would be the fuel filter. It is probably almost completely plugged.

Automatic transmission the car drives for 5 mins and will stop if i put it off and start again it will go for another five min

I believe the problem you do have with your auto-transmission,is with the electronics, probably with ECU of the gear box. By switching off the car and restart and the gear box works for five minutes and then the same thing again from the beginning, is like by switching off you do clear and reset the program of your ECU.
It is recommended to apply to a qualified Garage for a better and safe repair.
Good Luck.

I think you are on the right track. It sounds like you have a fuel flow problem and those are the two items that immediately come to mind. I would start with the filter and then move on to the fuel pump if there is no change.

Thanks for using FixYa and welcome to the site. I have a few questions for you. Is it doing it every five minutes? Also, have you checked the fuel pressure? Is gas getting to the injectors on the engine block? I will be waiting on your reply.

if it shuts off after running for a while and will not restart for about 10 min,a bad crank sensor will cause this. abad crank sensor will make car shut off and not restart for about 10 min. put a scanner on to make sure. a check engine light does not allways come on. if you do not have a scanner, any auto parts store will scan it for free.

My 2001 Chevy Tracker quits running after a while and will restart after about 10-15 minutes. It originally runs rough after it restarts. I have been told to replace the camshaft sensor. Also, when I...

Had the same problem with my tracker. Replaced the camshaft position sensor(easy to do yourself, takes about five mins.) Now can drive at highway speeds for about a half hour and stop at the gas station and she'll start back up and run fine. Before i had to wait at least 15-20mins before she would start. Also, if your service engine soon light is on take it to the national chain auto parts stores and they will hook up the code reader for free. The sensor runs about $120.
