Electrical draw acura

1990 acura legend

I seem to have a .5 amp parasitic draw, new battery dead within 3 days. I removed fuses to find draw and seems like main fuse ''ilumi'' is the cause. Not sure how to proceed, can I do with out this fuse... or suggestions for looking elsewhere. The problem is not eliminated by removing any other fuses

  • dpw-ct Oct 21, 2009

"Ilumi" is the label on one of the main fuses under the hood. When I remove that the amp draw goes away.

Something is drawing the battery (alternator working) - seems like the draw is 1/2 amp - this seems high???

please specify ilumi and also the car is supposed to have a small draw when the car is off so make sure you check the specification

Hi. Anything over about 300 milliamps is generally to high. illumi sounds like an abbreviation of illumination. with the fuse out try all your lighting, interior lights, dash lights ect. and see what doesn't work. a common problem is boot lights sticking on as they often cant be seen with the boot closed.

There is a pressure sensor on your system. At low pressure your compressor won’t come on.

SOURCE: how do i losen tension on 1990 acura legend

If you lean into the engine compartment from the passenger side to look at the pully side of the alternator, you will find a bolt (10mm I think) sort of behind the alternator and to the back left. It is sticking straight up, and you can use a nut driver or ratchet to turn it counter clockwise to loosen tension and lower the alternator. But you have to loosen the locking bolt first. When you look at the pully side of the alternator (once the plastic shroud is removed to expose the belt and pully) you will see 2 large bolts (one on the bottom right and one on the bottom left) on the alternator that hold it in place. The one on the bottom left (on the same side as the tension adjusting bolt) is the locking bolt. You will see that there is a track for it to slide along as the alternator swings up and down. If you loosen this bolt, the alternator should be free to swing down on the left side when you adjust the adjusting bolt. However, it is common for the alternator to stick even after you have loosened the locking bolt and . When I adjusted mine, I had to remove the bolt on the bottom right because my alternator had been in there so long is was stuck in place. (The alternator is supposed to pivot on the right bolt, but sometimes it sticks.)

One of your redundant magnetic speed pick-ups are bad. Probably a couple hundred bucks service from your dealer. Worth it. I also had a low idle problem when this happened; car would die at low rpm. New mag pick up fixed that also.

My 2005 Honda CRV's battery goes dead after axp. 3 days if I don't drive it. Replaced battery with new one and still happens. Why?

Have the battery tested I’m assuming it is the original battery, hopefully the battery is bad and all you need to do is replace it, if not there is a parasitic draw in the system and you need to take it to a shop to find the draw in the system. As it is a Honda I will gladly say the battery will go bad before anything else.

2003 nissan altima 2.5L 4 CYL would'nt w'out jump.replaced battery and car was fine for two days. On day 3 , after car was sitting for 15 hrs dead again!garage cant find whats drawing when car is off

Do you see a brake light on while driving? That could be a bad alternator.

Ask your garage to perform a parasitic draw test - you could do this with a multimeter, as well; it sounds like something is draining your battery while off - it could be any fuse and not obvious like with lights on/etc.

I would 95% positively guess this is the issue due to time frame. If the garage doesn't know what this is, take her somewhere that does. Shouldn't be costly, either.

Parked my Truck the next morning it was dead , what could be draining my batteries

Could be anything in the truck. The best way to narrow this type of problem down is to due a parasitic draw test. This is done by disconnecting the ground from the battery. Then connect an amp probe inline between the battery and terminal. Watch the amperage on the meter, it should drop to 5 ma or less after 10 min. This is sleep mode. If this happens you either don't have a draw (drain) or you have a draw that is that can't be duplicated at this time. If your amp draw is still over 5 ma after ten min. Something is staying on. To find out what that might be. Without opening any doors or actuating any switches, start removing and replacing fuses while watching amp draw on the meter when you see the amp draw drop you have found the circuit that is draining the battery. Hope this helps.

Dealer says only 5 of 6 sensors on sliding door are making a connection. The sensor not working is drawing power, effectively killing my battery every 3 weeks or so.

Does your vehicle sit for 3 weeks at a time? There will always be a draw on the battery. It is called a parasitic draw. This draw comes from computers and modules within the vehicle to maintain memories. If the vehicle sits for 3 weeks or more, this small drain will deplete the battery. If the vehicle is driven daily and every 3 weeks the battery goes dead overnight, the draw will have to be high. If the door is the problem, I would suspect the battery to be dead every morning. Removing the door fuse will illiminate the door as the problem. The life expectancy of an automotive battery is 5 years. Anything older can start to cause electrical problems.

My 2004 Kia Optima keeps killing batteries. I've put 2 new batteries in the last 6 months. I just put the new one in and it was dead after not driving it for 3 days. If I unhook the battery it is fine...

Sounds like a parasite. Shut off the car for about two hours, this will allow all of the computers to go to sleep. Connect an amp probe on the positive terminal of the battery, on most newer cars, 50 miliamps or less is all the current draw that the car should have. If it is more, remove one fuse at a time, checking the current draw. Lets have an example:
Current draw after two hours = 3 amps, so I remove the fuse for the cigarette lighter, when i check the amp probe, the reading is still 3 amps, this tells me, since i have removed power to this circuit, that it is not my parasite. So, moving on, I remove the fuse for my engine computer, I check the amp probe, the reading is still 3 amps, again, since I have removed the power source to this circuit, and the reading stays the same, it means that this is not the parasite in my electrical system. Moving on, I remove the fuse for my blower motor (the fan for your heater and ac) when i check the amp probe, the reading is 47 miliamps, since the reading is less than the previous reading, and i have removed power from the blower motor circuit, it means that the parasite is in the blower motor circuit. Hope this helps!!
