I'm trying to get access to the tail gate window washer motor, but the right hand Fog Light assembly is in the way. How can I remove the fog light assembly from the inside of the bumper?
No typo. The vehicle is a 1995 Volvo Station Wagon. It has a wiper on the rear window refered to as the "tailgate." I'm trying to get access to the motor / pump that pumps washer fluid to the rear window nozzles. The motor / pump is located under the reservoir in the engine compartment lower front right area. From under the car I can get to the wash motor if I am able to remove the Fog Light assembly from the rear side of the front bumper, but I don't know how it comes off and I don't want to break it trying to figure it out. There is no screws or bolt attaching it to the inside of the bumper that I can see. It appears to be clipped on some how.

Re: Getting access to tailgate window washer motor.
To remove the fog lamp assy u must go under the truck, it is held in from the rear, there will be a couple of studs and nuts you remove, I am a little confused hear, you have fog lights in the rear of the truck? is this a typo?

is this a RKE FOB only statement, and no keys tried?
all buttons tried? in car and the fob button?
Usually there are 3 ways, at least. Fob, real key and door switches.
the driver on some cars have a button to open all locks in car.
all ways, tired, inside and outside.?
id remove the inside tail gate, panel.
the lever to the lock is there. move the lock by hand iniside, i bet it opens now.
on most cars there is a child lock feature, its covered in the operators guide the fact there. read that. first.
wits end.?
id remove the inside tail gate, panel.

You have to remove the handle assembly and the latches. Working through the hole where the handle is, work the throught the edge of the tailgate and fasten to the latch assembly, then install the latch assembly. Once both latch assemblies are connected, reintall the handle assembly.
Drop the tailgate, remove the access panel on the inside of the tailgate. if the motor is turning but not doing anything, you should be able to pull the window out by hand which will allow access to the motor. support the window with a saw horse and one of those noodle things. To remove the motor you will have drill two holes in the tailgate. The replacement gear kit that I purchased had a template that you place over the area that needed to be drilled. The holes allow a a socket on a 1/4 drive extension reach the bolts holding the motor to the assembly. normally the only thing that is bad is the crush cylinders inside the gear assembly. I purchased my 1988 Bronco new in 1988 and have replaced the same parts at least 4 times. Hope this helps.
This has several possiblilitys, it could be the switch in the dash has gone out even if it does not work with the key in the tailgate. other possible item could be the window motor or a sensor that detects if the gate is up or down. check motor wires for power when the switch is activated by pulling off the panel on the tailgate, if it is getting power i would suggest replacing the motor. if not you may have to trace wires to the drivers side of the tail gate and find the sensor.i had to by pass mine a while ago. makes it much easier to clean the glass on the inside cause the window will roll up with the gate down.
You did right so far. Once you have lowered the tailgate and removed the upper and lower 10mm bolts the tail light assembly should be loose and moving a little bit. There are only 2 push-in plastic posts holding it at this point now. Then you have to pull back the assembly firmly, hit on the external side of the assembly with the palm of your hand and it will pop out. DO NOT try to pry with a screwdriver or any other tools.
Disconnect wires connections, replace burned or broken bulbs, make test. If it doesn't work check if the wiring has been affected by the accident.
If you need to change the light bulb for brake lights:
First you need to open the rear hatch then drop down the tail gate. You will notice that there are 4 screws total for each brake light assembly. 2 on the inside where the tailgate was blocking and 2 on the outside of light. Unscrew them all and the assembly will come right off giving access tot he light bulbs.
There should be an access panel on the bed side of the tail gate. If you have a liner installed on the tail gate you will need to remove it to gain access to the panel. Panel is probably held on with torx screws but you may get lucky and have regular bolts. just remove panel and the lock rods are held to the handle with little clips, just pop them off and remove the nuts that hold the handle assembly onto the tailgate, install is just the revers order.
Remove the interior trim panel which will not be easy since the gate is up ---- you can then access the lock mechanism and will probably find a bent linkage rod or a broken plastic retainer clip.
I believe you have to open the rear window to open the tailgate??
Tailgate opens right to left [ passenger to driver ] side?
Tailgate handle will not work if window not open - feels like it is disconnected. The "button" releases the window only.
If you open the rear window and the tailgate still will not open. You need to remove the inside tailgate cover to get access to the handle and release switch. You can access the the window release the same way [ just a little harder to do]. You will probably end up breaking the vinyl panel to do this but so will the auto body shop and they will charge you $$$$$ to replace it.
