I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee and i need a new engine. Will a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L engine work?
Computer hookup should be the same and physically it's the same engine. Only thing I can think of to check on is the engine mounts (not sure but there may have been a change there. Also, make sure you keep the same flywheel position in relation to the crankshaft and that both flywheels are identical in every way including tooth count.

Thanks for coming back. You can use a 96'er 4L engine at your 93'er Granny. Two choices: you use all the electrical items used with your old engine (sensors etc.) and put only the engine in. Or: You take the engine, ECU, complete wiring etc. and put this complete "set" in your 93'er Granny. Check if the engine mounts and the flywheel fit! Both engines are complete the same, only the emission system has changed to lower green house emissions at 96'er models.
