Transmission pan must be removed to drain fluid & change filter.loosen all pan bolts, remove all but 4 bolts @ corners.strike pan with a plastic hammer or block of wood if it's stuck. slowly remove remaining bolts, allowing fluid to drain into a suitable container.this can get messy, have rags handy.when drained, remove pan, clean pan & transmission gasket surfaces.pull filter straight down, push new filter on to tube, positioned as original, install new gasket,'run down 'all pan bolts then tighten them securely.
That transmission should not be serviced yet or until 100k miles. If you insist on it, you will be changing the trans pan gasket, trans filter and trans fluid. Start by draining, remove all the bolts to the pan, pull the filter, clean the areas where the new gasket will be going, use proper sealer making sure to put it around each screw hole and then go take a shower to get all the transmission fluid off of you. Good luck

if you have installed a new cd player in there then the propblem could be that your speaker wires and either touching each other or grounding them selfs out.. pull of the cd player and check to make sure all the speaker wires are covered properly and no bare wires are exposed.. if you still have a factory cd player in it then you will probably need to take it to a dealership to have it checked out..

This tranny has approximately 13 quarts of fluid. Just dropping the pan and replacing the filter will yield about 5 quarts or so, with the balance still sitting in the torque converter. I recommend just doing this instead of paying someone to power flush the system. There are debates whether or not this method will damage the tranny. When I did it, I got around 6-7 quarts out of it. Use GM's new transmission fluid Dextron VI. It's much better than the old stuff. GM starting putting the Dextron VI in 2009 and newer vehicles. Make sure you know what size your pan is, there is a shallow pan and a deep pan, the deep will have a step in it, the shallow will be completely flat.
There is another way to get rid of all the fluid, but it's very time consuming and difficult if you've never done one before. Involves disconnecting the transmission fluid cooler line at the radiator and having the pump inside the tranny pump out all the fluid for you.
