Actually vapor lock refers to a condition in the intake manifold on a carbureted engine. You don't have vapor lock. What you may have is a filter inside the tank, its nicknamed a sock. Its a fine mesh screen and may be plugging up. When you pull the fuel line the fuel flows back and unblocks a small section , until it starts too **** again and re plugs. You may also have fuel pump that starts to lose power when its gets hot. Lee

87 Fuel injected? pump is in the tank right? good filter?ck fuel pressure, should be 35-45 psi. check pressure while you are having the problem. Vapor lock with a fuel injected car is VERY RARE.

So tell me does a vapour lock ,comes from a hole in the muffler, and would that make a cranking sound come from your engine

To promote easy starting, all gasolines contain volatile constituents that under some conditions, such as high ambient temperature, tend to produce more vapor than the fuel-system vents can handle. The action of an engine-mounted fuel pump, in decreasing the pressure at its inlet, tends to vaporize the fuel. If the vapor forms faster than the pump can draw it from the fuel line, the flow of fuel to a carburetor is effectively stopped and the engine stalls. Vapor lock is much less likely on a fuel-injected engine with an electric pump in the fuel tank. However, an engine with port fuel injection may experience vapor lock if the injector or fuel overheats, or if the Reid vapor pressure of the fuel is too high.

I am getting no diesel into my fuel filter is their a electric pump in my tank or is the fuel pump part of the injector pump

Fuel Pump REMOVAL & INSTALLATION Navajo and B Series Pick-up Models NOTE: To gain access to the fuel pump, it is necessary to remove the fuel tank.
  1. Depressurize the fuel system and remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
  2. Remove any dirt that has accumulated around the fuel pump attaching flange, to prevent it from entering the tank during service.
  3. Turn the fuel pump locking ring counterclockwise using a locking ring removal tool and remove the locking ring.
  4. Remove the fuel pump and bracket assembly.
  5. Remove the seal gasket and discard it. To install:
  6. Put a light coating of heavy grease on a new seal ring to hold it in place during assembly. Install it in fuel tank ring groove. Fig. 1: Fuel pump and sending unit used on the B Series Pick-up regular cab 89685g02.gif

Fig. 3: Fuel pump and sending unit used on the Navajo 89685g04.gif

  7. Insert the fuel pump assembly into the fuel tank, then secure it in place with the locking ring. Tighten the ring until secure.
  8. Install the tank in the vehicle.
  9. Install a minimum of 10 gallons of fuel and check for leaks.
  10. Install a pressure gauge on the throttle body valve and turn the ignition ON for 3 seconds. Turn the key OFF, then repeat the key cycle five to ten times until the pressure gauge shows at least 30 psi. Reinspect for leaks at the fittings.
  11. Remove the pressure gauge. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
MPV Models
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the rear seat and lift up the rear floormat. Remove the fuel pump cover.
  3. Disconnect the sending unit/fuel pump assembly electrical connector and the fuel lines.
  4. Remove any dirt that has accumulated around the sending unit/fuel pump assembly so it will not enter the fuel tank during removal and installation.
  5. Remove the attaching screws and remove the sending unit/fuel pump assembly.
  6. If necessary, disconnect the electrical connectors and the fuel hose and remove the pump from the sending unit assembly.
  7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Be sure to install a new seal rubber gasket. Fig. 4: Remove the rear seat and floormat to service the fuel pump 90975g06.gif

Have a 1993 gmc sierra. runs fine most of the time . but will just kill sometimes out of the blue. does not matter if it is warmed up or cold. when it dies will just turn over but not start. replaced spark...

When this truck dies, does it have spark,or fuel pressure?Check it for no spark,if it has no spark, replace the ignition module. These gm year models are bad to go out ,and the distributor pick up coil also.Replace the module first,if this does not help, replace the pick up coil.NOW ON A FUEL RELATED PROBLEMit could be fuel pump, fuel pump relay,or the pick up coil. The pick up coil pulses the injectors, and the spark.I hope this helps,if not let me know.
