1999 Ford Taurus GL Wagon 3.0 V6 178K - Two issues. 1 - oil pan - slight leak due to worn oil pan gasket, probably cork. Worn rusted spot on the bottom of the pan. I have a replacement pan from a salvage yard but I'm having a problem getting the oil pan off the car. It seems to be blocked by the exhaust system - how do I remove the old oil pan? Did Ford really do this? Is it really this difficult to remove the oil pan? 2 - The service engine soon light came on. My mechanic checked codes and it came up transmission. He cleared it and it took 528 miles before the light came back on. It said transmission again. He cleared it again and it took 278 miles before it came back on again. After another 115 miles it was on again, and then 112 miles later it went off. It remains off. There are no obvious transmission symptoms. I can get a one-second freeze from a stoplight between 20 and 35 miles per hour. The transmission was flushed at 96,000 and again at 140,000 miles. Do you have any experiences with Tauruses like this?

Yes the exhaust has to come down. 6 or 7 bolts no big deal.Didnt your mechanic tell you that? why isnt he replacing the pan for you?Why would you buy a pan from a salvage yard, they are cheap from aftermarket sources, and if it leaks when you are done, tough luck.. turning the ck engine light is not solving anything. your trans has a problem and the sooner its fixed, the less it may cost you.

Why is the oil pressure light coming on, when idling, if dipstick reads full... 2004 Ford Taurus station wagon se 3.0

Oil pressure is not just dependant on oil level. Blocked oil channels, blocked oil pickup, worn crank and connecting rod bearings or a worn oil pump can affect oil pressure. Old dirty oil can also cause issues.

I have a 97 Ford Taurus I put Marvel oil in it you have been driving for 30 minutes now it runs real real bad lost power overheating and smoking

Umm...

Overheating is either a sign of a thermostat/radiator fault, a coolant leak or a leaking cylinder head gasket.

Smoking is either due to overfilling with oil, worn valve seals or worn piston rings/worn engine.

If the trouble started when you topped up with oil, drain the oil system and try a different oil.

I HAVE 1997 FORD TAURUS, AND IT HAD AN OIL LEAK, HOW CAN I TELL IF IT IS THE OIL PAN OR A BLOWN HEAD GASKET?

the head gasket is on the engine higher than the oil pan so if the leak is not were the head meets the cylinder block and running down towards the bottom of the motor then the head gasket is not the problem.if the leak is only around the oil pan area and slightly above it then its probably the oil pan that is leaking.fluid leaks travel backwards or downwards not up.

Oil pan is leaking really bad

If it is leaking at the gasket, remove and replace the gasket.
If it is leaking at a corner from a rust spot, you may be able to repair it if the hole is small with Puddy Epoxy, that sets in 5 minutes and cures in 1 hour or so.

I tried this on a 1998 Ford Taurus that had a difficult to remove oil pan that seemed to drip oil when shut off.

I got a screwdriver and poked a larger hole in the oil pan and made the edges go ragged around the hole.

Then, I sprayed it with brake cleaner to get the oil residue off.
Then, I got a golf ball sized amount of Puddy Epoxy, mixed it by kneeding it in my two hands, then I applied it to the hole. It works great, going on 2 years.

A lot cheaper than a new pan removed and replaced, by the way.

Good luck on this repair.

My 1992 Ford Taurus GL 3.0 is leaking Transmission fluid. But I don't know where.

many times hard to find trans. leaks come from the front trans. seal being worn the leak is mainly leaking down inside the flywheel/converter area and drip down to the lowest point.
Also the trans. pan gaskets have a tendency to wear causing a leak as well as a rear seal... if you cant find it take it to a trans shop and they will add a dye to the fluid ask you to drive a few days and come back so they can put a leak detector black light on the trans. in order to find the leak. This is best done in a shop and on a lift.

Where is the commen oil leak on a 97 ford taurus

Maybe, maybe not, It's most likely a bad rear seal or worn main bearings but check the oil filter just to be safe. Sometimes things go wrong when changing the oil filter that can cause similar symptoms.
1) old gasket left behind.
2) cross threaded filter.
3) loose filter.
4) damage gasket or defective new filter.

My 2003 ford taurus has oil pan gasket leak just

All you have to do is get under the car with a 1/2" drive ratchet, 3" extension, an extension swivel, and the socket for the bolts on the oil pan. Go through all the bolts and tighten them all up. You will be surprised at how loose some of them are.

Gasket needs replacing

then you need to replace the gaskets drain oil from oil pan take all bolts out and drop the pan as far as valve pan covers buy rubber gaskets not cork they are a lot more pliable and less prone to leak
