I have a 1989 Plymouth Reliant 2.5 l engine. I have a intermitten problem with stalls on/off for last two years, but for last two weeks very often. My observation about stalling: stalls often at the intersection on the red lite, stalls sometimes when I remove my foot from the gas pedal while in small speed; idle varies-sometimes stays too high-actualy I start to noticing it after replacement of the head two years ago; after stalling I can start the car on the second key turn without any problem; I can drive the car with with one foot on the gas and second foot on the brake and shift to neutral before stopping to keep the idle higher but it is not very comfortable. Not sure if replacing of the head has anything to do with this problem. I have replaced it by myself with a help of my experienced friend. Thanks for any idea.Otto

If you notice the car running rich(black smoke out of the exhaust) you might look at the MAP sensor. It is a common problem with these cars, and about 50 bucks at your local parts store. You will find it on the passenger side inner fender just in front of the strut tower, it is a small black box with one vaccum line and one elec. plug. try pulling off the vac. line and plugging it with a bolt the car should idle like that, if it does, you have found your problem. Hope this helps

Your EGR valve coked up , causing exhaust gas leak to by the valve into intake manifold at idle. It cause engine idle very rough. EGR operates above idle only , to control NOX. The fix is to replace the egr valve or fab'd metal plate to cover the port on the intake manifold. also remember plug the vacuum line. I've done this on two vehicle I own with no problems. Good Luck

Where is the fuel pump relay on a 1989 plymouth reliant

Relays are usually found in the engine compartment near the battery. You should find a small (square or rectangular) black box (usually black). Take off the cover and reveal the relays - the inside of the cover should indicate which relay is which - here you'll find the fuel pump relay location.

89 reliant plymouth car stall out

You're right; It sounds like fuel delivery, but start with the simplest suspects first.
Change the fuel filter(s) first, and if this doesn't get it, go for the fuel pump.

Where is the fuse box located in my 1989 plymouth reliant. I have looked under steering column and under the hood, still cannot find the box, the radiator fan will not turn on.

for that relay/fuse it would be located likely in the fuse panel in the engine compartment. generally they are located near the battery and will have a cover on it.
