Ethir the idle is to high,or a motor/transmission mount is weak,or broken.Have some one look at the engine, and start the car.Put it in drive, and back into neutral and back and forth.Tell them to look for the engine to tip back and forth, more than 4 inches from where it sets normaly with out a load on it.You can also do this test,by putting it in drive and (ride the brake pedal)hold the brake firm, and gradually accellerate the gas,but have the person looking at engine, position themselves to the side of car(looking over fender)so the won`t be in front of the car,You can do this also in reverse, and you need to.If you get over movement ,then there is a mountor suport,or trans,or more than one,or two of the combinations that are weak,or bad. Also if there are any check engine lights on,it is possible that a solenoid on the trans is bad, making the trans go in gear,to quick, and not gradualy, like it should be.If this was helpful, please let us know, thank you.

What causes hard and grinding noise when changing manual gears for a toyota corolla 16 valve engine ?

What year and mileage is on you Corolla? First check the fluid level in the brake fluid reservoir as a hydraulic clutch also uses this reservoir. Next, using a flashlight, look under the vehicle to check for any leaks under the transmission. Low fluid can make gear changes harder. A transmission leak will be a dark red colour.
The most likely cause is a worn clutch. Does it 'Slip' or jerk in other gears as you raise the pedal? This is a repair that is easier for a good mechanic to do as you will need to lower the engine to get the transmission housing off.

Car only starts in reverse and only drives in neutral

Sounds like a cable to the transmission is not adjusted up right, and/or the neutral safety switch is not adjusted right, if this applies to your Toyota Corolla.

I changed the gear box of my 2007 corolla about 5 months ago. Then I noticed the car jerks or kind of pushes forward whenever i change my gear from park/neutral to drive or reverse. Please what do you...

A delay of more than a second in shifting from the neutral to drive or reverse gear, could mean that there is a problem with the transmission. If on changing from a neutral or park position to the drive or reverse gear, the car does not immediately catch the gear and move forward or backward, then it could mean a problem in the transmission. If you change gears, and you hear a sudden clunk or sudden jolt or shudder, then the shifting is not smooth and there could be a problem with the gearbox. If the engine rpm keeps increasing but there is no increase in the speed, then it could be a sign of the transmission slipping. Most automatic transmission systems, nowadays, have a check engine light or an OD light, which flashes if there is a problem with the engine.

My van is jerking when shifting from first to second gear and vice versa. Most especially in the morning. Please advise me for the solution. Thanks.

When is the last time you changed your automatic transmission fluid? Modern transmissions require regular fluid changes or they start to malfunction , generally shifting problems. Try a fluid change with any luck the transmission will go back to normal operation.

I would change the transmission filter and fluid first. It could be that your filter is old and stopping the transmission from working properly.

If a transmission fluid and filter change does not solve the problem, then it's time for a transmission rebuild or replacement. This can often happen if the car was driven improperly, such as sudden stops and starts, jamming the clutch into gear (in manuals), down shifting while the car is in another gear or from old age.
