Check battery terminal posts/connections are clean and firmly attached,
Check battery/chassis/engine ground connection is in good condition,
Check operation of the park/neutral interlock switch is ok.
Check +12v appears at the starter solenoid control when the ignition switch is held in the 'start' position.

If no power to start solenoid trace the circuit back to ignition 'start' switch (via transmission neutral switch) to 12v supply fuse.

Have you tried moving shifter slowly through all gears, especially neutral when trying to start ? Sometimes safety neutral switch will become faulty & some movement of shifter may make it turn over.

SOURCE: I have a 2002 Mazda Protege 5 with a manual

Check you battery & cables. If top of cables & battery post are green or white. Mix water and baking soda or a coke and pour on the post. Rinse it off if it's was real bad you may need new cables. Sometime you need to remove the cables to clean. Always remove Neg - 1st then you can remove Pos + replace the Pos+ 1st. Should be a 10 mm wrench have a 8mm & a 1/2 in ready just in case. Use safety glasses.
Get a jump start or charge battery. It is likely you have a dead cell in your battery & will need to replace it. Work safe

1994 Mazda Protege wouldn't start, battery seemed dead replaced battery with a new one and still no power

Does anything work? Lights, radio? Do the warning lights and gauges turn on when key is turned to on? That would verify power is getting to the ignition switch and is being sent out.
Pretty limited in what you can check without a voltmeter or test light. If you have power to the ignition switch, need to know if power is getting to the starter solenoid on the starter motor when the key is held in cranking position. If power there, likely a new starter is called for-have yours tested.

Car won't start just clicks. 2002 Mazda Protege5

The check eng light and the click are separate issue. The click is caused by a burned contact pad in the starter solenoid, the starter solenoid is mounted to the top of the starter motor on the engine. As for the other problem replace the O2 sensor, the heater is defective that preheats it when the engine is first started.

My 2002 mazda protege lx refuses to start. The battery is fine, but the engine/stater makes no sound or attempt to start. What is the problem?Could it be a relay, the starter?

If your battery is known to be fine then you probably have a bad starter. You can pull it and take it to autozone and they will test it for free before you buy a new one.

Mazda protege with no dashlight on.

First you must cut the Dimmer wire from your stereo installation.Second, replace the 5amp or maybe the 7amp fuse that blew at the fuse panel near the LEFT foot rest.If you are certain that all the fuses check fine, then go to your MAZDA dealer and purchase a new thumbwheel dimmer control, because the rheostat has burned in your present one.Do not reconnect the dimmer control wire 2 your stereo wiring, because U don't need to.

Instructions on how to change the rear brakes on a 2002 mazda protege?

Give me a call.
1) I have owned a Mazda protege 5 for the last 4 years
2) I have done 2 complete brake jobs on it
3) I am a braking systems engineer.
4) I know what I am doing. I have done 100's of brake jobs on lots of different vehicles.

Biggest issue with the protege is getting the piston back in.
Look at the back of the caliper.
There is a thin head bolt on the back.
You need to take this off the caliper and reach inside with an allen head (I think it's 5mm). Then turn the set screw in there out a few turns. Then you can push the piston back in with a regular piston push back tool. Dont worry if the set screw comes out. Just thread it back in. But you HAVE to at least start it back in. It is part of the auto-adjust mechanism. After you do your brakes you may notice that your parking brake has A LOT of play. After you work it a few times it will tighten back up just fine.

Clean averything well and grease the slide pins with a good quality waterproof grease. There is special grease for slide pins.
