The car has been sitting in storage for two years. When we put it in storage we took out the battery and got it ready to sit. After putting the battery back in we can not start it. We tried to jump it. What else can we do?

Does the engine turn over? (in other words, starter works?) Did you drain the gasoline and/or add some additive to gas prior to storage? If not, and starter is engaging, I'd look to draining gas, re-fill, then work my way thru the fuel filter and injectors to clean out the fuel system.

Spray some engine starting fluid into the air cleaner and it should fire. Once you can get it it run for a few seconds on starting fluid it should stay running. Draining the tank and putting in some fresh premium grade petrol would also be a good move.

Assuming no electrical components work, try a newer battery or hooking the old one to a charger and letting it charge up for a while. batteries will still discharge when disconnected.

Not start after sitting

Never scrap a car that's still in good shape. Check that all fluids are up and put a fresh battery in it and turn the key to on. You'll hear the fuel pump run till pressure is up, then crank it over. Should start up and be ready to run.

My passat was sitting in a tow yard for 3 months it was working fine before it got towed. Now I replaced the battery and put half tank of gas. the car doesn't start but it cranks. WHAT COULD BE THE ...

After 3 months it is possible the fuel pump has seized up due to the fuel going bad. As of 2 years ago, fuel has a storage life of around 90 days. If the fuel had ethanol in it when it was stored, this fuel stratifies in the tank and the water content sinks to the bottom also ruining the in tank fuel pump.

It is also possible other components may have failed coincidentally and you will need a scanner to pull the codes stored in the ECU to see if other sensors have failed.

When electronic loaded vehicles sit until the battery goes flat.... it induces a lot of false codes as the system awakes and then goes back to sleep because of low voltage fluctuations as battery looses it's voltage.

The ground clamp should be removed from the battery before late model vehicles are put in long term storage to prevent electronic code scrambling .

You problem may be the alternator...It may be putting out voltage, but not enough amperage...voltage doesn't charge the battery, the current(ampoerage) does. have the alt checked. then if its good, make sure you have no accessories that are plugged in or left on in the car

My engine has seized after being laid up for approximately two years. How can I free it?

Remove the spark plugs and squirt some oil down in the cylinder heads. let it sit for a week
Remove old fuel from the fuel lines and tank .
Put a good battery in it.
If vehicle fires up after a week of sitting, shut it down and change oil in the engine, diffs and trans, you will probably notice that seals may weep oil for awhile if they continue you will have to replace those seals.
