1994 Nissan Altima Stalls intermittedly at startup

1994 Nissan Altima Stalls intermittedly at start up only (about 10% of the time mostly when engine is warm/hot). Engine runs excellent and otherwise starts good 90% of the time. No check engine light, no warning lights, everything just seems normal. When this happens, I start my car.... RPM is at 1100 and drops within a second or 2 to "0". Start again and its normal. Replaced following: New Dist cap, rotor, plugs, intake cleaning. Car runs very good, never stalls out at stops or when parked, or driving, no hesitation or misfire. This only happens when the engine is started mostly when its warm/hot. Please help...my mechanic can't figure this out!!

Tell your mechanic to look up Service Bulletin #96-032 this could fix your problems

I have this problem for quite a bit. The idling speed when engine started cold is between 700-800 rpm. As the engine gets hotted idling rpm increase to almost 1000rpm. If idling is adjusted back, the rpm...
There appears to be a thermal movement of choke mechanism that comes about once vehicle is warmed up. Check the chock connections, hot water pipe and linkages tight or clear.

sounds like your timing is off. YOu will need a timing light to set it. Check with Autozone, they have a loan a tool program and may have one you can borrow. You will need to contact nissan to determine what the proper timing is for your engine.

Did the car stall out? If the car stalled out she would have had to step hard on the brake to get the car to stop. When a car stalls you loose the power brakes causing most people to panic and step too hard on the brake causing them to lock up. If the car overheated there should be an inactive code in the ECM. Bring the car to an Auto Zone and they will scan your ECM for free. Good Luck!!

Engine stalls
check to make sure that the exhaust is not clogged, sounds like the catalytic converter may have gone bad

Timing belt 1994 nissan altima
most timing belts go much longer. i am asuming the dealer recommends it or you probably wouldn't ask.it is not an easy or cheap job. i am a big fan of if it ain't broke don't fix it. my truck has almost 200k with the original on...some motors are damaged when the timing belt breaks..ask your dealer why it is recommended and go from there..Good luck

My car stalls or I have some trouble starting it. It turns over but takes a couple of seconds to start and then, sometimes, it stalls again. 2003 Nissan Altima w/155,000 miles [email protected]
is the check engine light on?? you may need a crank ngle sensor. pretty common problem with altima. nissan actually has TSB out for replacement of sensors. good luck.
