I owned the Ssangyong Rexton RX 270 xdi for 3 years and recently I have encountered a problem where, when I take it for a drive, it went ok for a few kilometers but would then suddenly loose power, as if deprived of fuel. While that happens the engine check will come on and small amount of black smoke can be seen from the exhaust.
We have brought it to the garage and they have replaced the filter and water separator, however the problem still exist.
At a point they found some error codes and erased but still the problem comes in.
These are actions already made:
- Replaced accelerator pedal as error codes seems to point to the pedal.
- Replaced fuel filter and water separator. Very insignificant amount of water observed.
- Cleaned fuel tank.
The problem is due to your engine temperature sensor which is by fault sense the tempt high, which instruct the fuel injector to give lean fuel ratio to the engine and cause your engine hunting and shut off.on normal condition it sense tempt hi when u already hav enough rich fuel inside your engine thats why it try to reduce your fuel ratio.
I had the same issue with ours. Would just disable the engine out of the blue. Turned out to be a faulty sensor for the crank shaft. Has been fine since we changed the sensor.
Although to know that was the issue, we had to plug in a diagnostic kit to find out what had triggered the 'engine check' light. So you may need to do that first in case it's something else.
