Audi A6 Starting problem

Start with your starter and make sure it's not stuck out and getting too hot. Starters in a simple explanation come out to make contact with the fly wheel and start the car then retract when not being used.

i would get the OBD codes read as this wil pinpoint the sensor/switch at fault ,save you time and money trying different things blind

You have coolant burning. Your 2.7T is a hot-running engine and the plastic tank sits above the left side exhaust manifold. The heat from the manifold is known to cook the tank and make it brittle enough to crack and leak. I think if you look at the tank you'll see it's leaking slightly on the manifold, causing the coolant smoke you're seeing. You can get a new tank from www.GermanAutoParts.com in Albany NY - great place to deal with (I always order parts for jobs from them) and replacement is simple.

If yours Audi A6 2.5 TDI engine will not start in morning, then you must check up (and replace if necessary) each glow plug & glow plugs relay if no burned glow plugs founded.

replace the coil pack, sounds like it is over heating.

I had the same thing with my 96 Audi A6 - what fixed it for me was placing a new ground strap between the engine block and the body. It appears the ends of the old cable were corroded.

I had same problem with petrol gauge bouncing around all over the place, full tank, half a tank and nearly empty in the space of 10 miles.

I knew that if I filled the tank I would get approx 200 miles for half a tank so I did that for a while and just kept topping up. Audi testing it and the fuel sensors in the tank had to be replaced. I'm afraid its the only permanent solution!
