You should never cut the stock harness. They make adapters for $10 so you don't have too. If you haven't cut the harness, don't cut it.

I highly recommend reattaching the stock harness, soldering the wires together, and getting an adapter.
1991 Ford Explorer XLT Radio and Speaker Wire Colors
Pulled out the stock radio and found two plugs on the back of it. One plug had 7 wires (Power, Dimmer, Amp etc.) and one had 8 (Speakers).
7 wire plug (I could see these wires immediately from the plug):

Not for sure if I can help.Someone forgot the golden rule.NEVER CUT THE WIRING HARNESS.I dont have the wiring scematics in front of me but the older models had RED for power,BLACK for ground,and the wiring going to the spreakers should be an off color running together going to the speakers.Probably has a six speaker system.Hope I helped.
Wal Mart has the Complete Amp Install Kit. You will need this. Go to Schoche.com and Locate an RCA Jack Converter. It is a Blue Box that cuts in to the Rear Speaker Wires and Supplies the RCA Jacks that you will need for this Installation.
