My speedometer is stuck on 20 miles an hour. Once in while it will work, but rarly. I replaced the speed sensor, but there was no change. The speedometer still stays at 20 miles an hour.

My 96 did the same thing. The speed sensor is and was fine -- the problem is an open circuit in the wires inside the gauge itself.

The Chilton's manual has pretty good instructions on how to replace the instrument cluster. You can buy just the speedometer gauge, or an entire instrument cluster for $100 or so on eBay. Just be sure you get a cluster that matches your model and trim line -- the LX and DX have different clusters, and of course the automatic and the 5-speed are different as well.

Do be sure to disconnect the battery before you begin the project, as there's a (slim) chance you can discharge the airbags if you don't

Check the battery connections on the positive post. I have a 96 Caddilac Deville and had simuliar issues. On alot if GM cars a dual booted connectors are installed on the positive/red side of the battery. Over time and battery replacements the connections wear out or become less effective causing voltage issuses in the ECM thus createing troubles through out. I removed both boots and and direct connected both leads. No more speedometer issues.

Speedometer needle bounce when turn signal is on.

The speedometer sensor - VSS - vehicle speed sensor is a input to the PCM - powertrain control module -engine computer . The signal from the PCM to the instrument cluster for speed info. is sent on a serial data communication network (class 2 ) I would think it would be an instrument cluster problem . Get a used one from a auto salvage yard 15 - 20 bucks an see if it fixes it . If it does ,send your's out an have it repaired .

91 speedometer and miles

I have a 91 Accord. When I purchased it, the speedometer did not work. I replaced the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) and the speedometer started working again. I paid $24 for the sensor on ebay. The local part stores wanted $150. It's an easy fix. It takes about 20 minutes to replace.
