Charging sytem light came on but battery and alternator are brand new.

Did anyone hook up a scan tool an check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's ? Charging system controlled by the PCM - engine computer .

What's the voltage reading at the battery with the engine running ? 13 to 14.1 volts ? If not, it's not charging .Sounds to me like it's not charging ! Is there battery voltage at the heavier gage wire on the back of the alternator ? Does the battery symbol light on the dash work ?

crankshaft position sensor is not related to alternator. CPS is part of engine control while alternator is charging system.

you have to drive it to charge the battery back up or put it on a charger

It is not charging the battery because of several problems ---1 when connecting up the wires to the alternator was there a spark at the connection ---2 is the heavy wire on the alternator insulated from the body of the alternator--- is there a fuse in the charge circuit that is blown---4 is the light wires pushed fully home in the connection--- have you the correct alternator for the car ( internal or external voltage regulator)---5 is the drive belt in good condition and tight- If everything checks out then take it to an accredited auto electrician to have the alternator tested properly as new alternators ( out of the box new) can be faulty.

look for main fuse panel under hood, there should be a charging circuit fuse check it

Have the whole battery/charging sytem tested. If it has an external voltage regulator or a bad battery, these things can kill a perfectly good alternator.

the battery light has nothing to do with the battery, it indicates that the charging system (which is the alternator) is not producing enough power to cancel the light in the dash, have Autozone or Kragen test the charging system again, the rebuilt alternator may be defective that u just installed or a connector to it has a bad connection.

replace battery cables if they are very old .check alternator wires fuse and fuse link.also check belt.
