I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox needing a transmission flush

I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox with 55k miles on it. It was recommended by my service rep to get the transmission flushed. Can I just drain out the transmission fluid or is it best to use the machine to get out all of the transmission fluid?

I'm not certain exactly how much fluid the machine actually removes. Likely it would be fine if you just replaced it the usual way. Don't let it go another 50k though, change at least at 30K or even a bit earlier.

Does the transmission work o.k.? if it does i would recomend just a filer change and fresh fluid...if something major is wrong with the transmision you will see a lot of metel chips in the drain pan...55k is not a lot of mileage on the transmission unless you tow vehilces a lot and do a lot of city driving ...seems like they just want your money.

2006 equinox air tube behind throttle body?

Short answer is that I've never seen a dealer charge a customer to hook up and read codes from the ODB2 port.
I think that pretty much defines that particular dealers service department.

The transmission is not designed to require fluid maintenance per the owners manual-ever. That's why there's no user available dip stick.

The cooling system is designed for flush and replace only after 150,000 miles.

Somewhere in your town is a small, affordable and professional garage with an excellent mechanic. Give him or her the list of grievances listed by the dealer and let them work their magic for much less.

You are right, some of what is listed is bunk, some could be real issues.
One that is not real? The steering is electronic assist, no fluid, just synchro-motors. What were they going to flush, your wallet?

I am a firm believer in the factory franchised dealer concept however, there are some that should have their franchises revoked, I think you found a pretty good candidate.

Best of luck.

Do I need a transmission flush on my 2006 equinox, 97,000 miles

It is a good idea to have your transmission fluid/filter changed at every 50k miles. If you're having any problem with your transmission shifting, hesitating etc I'd get it tested/diagnosed by a transmission shop before doing anything.

What recommended service is there for the 2005 equinox at 60,000 miles?

Definately do the plugs and wires, air filter, Transmission service, Brake fluid flush, coolant flush, power steering flush and differential (if applicable to your car) if money allows. Priority would be plugs and wires, air filter, trans service and coolant for now And then work your way down.

My Equinox stalls or 'sputters' just as the car is transitioning from second gear to Drive (third). I just had the transmission flushed and the fluid replaced. The dealer said they could not change the...

Take it back to the dealership! Sounds like wrong fluid was used or damage was caused by fill procedure. Gm transmissions are also electronic and components such as solenoids could be failing. Never Never change or flush GM transmissions as early as 70,000 miles if it is normal use. You are asking for trouble. Under normal use they are sealed and can go for 100,000 mile under normal operation

When do you service the transmission on a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 4.8 v8

Most newer transmissions recommend checking the fluid at every oil change. With heavy driving (towing, hauling, mountains, etc.) it should be serviced at 60,000 miles. Regular driving with little towing and hauling, it can easily go 100,000 miles. You can also check the wear by looking at your transmission fluid. If it is very dark and smells "burnt" you should have it serviced and have a tech check for unusual wear and damage.

How many miles till transmission service

Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow me to assist you.

The best service you can give your transmission is as follows: Drain and refill the transmission at 30,000 miles. Flush the transmission at 60,000 miles, drain and refill at 90,000, and flush it again at 120,000 miles. That is the same recommendation that I give my customers in our Toyota service department. Following that maintenance schedule, we do not have any transmission failures.

Thanks for choosing FixYa today. I hope that my assistance proves truly useful to you. If so, a 4 thumbs rating for my input would be very nice of you.

Would A 2006 Chevy Equinox with just 40,000 miles

Possibly. It depends on what the climate is like where you live. For instance, if you live in an area where the summer climate hits 110 (i.e. Phoenix), then your vehicle will need to be serviced more regularly. Best recommendation, take your vehicle to AutoZone, Checkers, O'Reillys, etc. for a free diagnostic check.
