Electrical portion of the ignition swith is faulty. Replace that and all will be well. A good rule to follow since this a weak point on most of hondas older model cars is the lighter the key chain the longer the life of the electrical portion of the ignition switch.
its either due for an oil change or the last place that changed oil did not rest it. If the oil has been changed and is not due than you can reset it.
-with the key in the run position make sure the odometer is displayed. -turn the key off -press and hold the trip reset button on the instrument cluster and turn the key to the run position (do not start the vehicle) -continue to hold the trip reset button until the maintenance light goes out. -once the light is out let go of the button and start the car. The light should come on for a couple of seconds and then go out.
I have had this problem on two separate honda accords. Can you keep the engine running if you turn the key to start and then let the key come back just a little? I have had two faulty switches. I could keep the engine running but I had to hold the key between run and start position.
It is fairly easy to do - just hold the odometer mileage reset button before starting the car and turn the key to start the car, keep holding the button for 2 more sec. This works for my 1998 Honda Accord and should be the same for yours.
