I need a wiring diagram for 1976 GMC Jimmy

I'm sorry, but as a text-based AI model, I'm unable to provide visual images or diagrams. However, I can try to explain the general wiring setup for a 1976 GMC Jimmy.

The wiring diagram for a specific vehicle can vary based on the model, trim level, and optional equipment. It's recommended to consult a service manual or reach out to a qualified automotive electrician for accurate and detailed wiring diagrams specific to your vehicle.

In general, the wiring in a 1976 GMC Jimmy would consist of various circuits for different systems such as the ignition system, lighting system, charging system, and more. Here are some common components and circuits you might find:

  1. Ignition System: This circuit includes components like the ignition switch, ignition coil, distributor, spark plugs, and related wiring. It controls the ignition timing and provides sparks to ignite the fuel-air mixture in the engine.
  2. Lighting System: This circuit handles the headlights, taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and other exterior and interior lights. It usually consists of a combination of fuses, relays, switches, and wiring harnesses.
  3. Charging System: The charging system includes the alternator, voltage regulator, battery, and associated wiring. It generates electrical power to charge the battery and provide electricity to the vehicle's electrical components.

I put in a new speedo cable in my 1976 Moke 999 But it now appears to leak masive amounts of oil. Have I installed it incorrectly . All one needs to do is tighten the screw the nut around speedo

I assume you refer to the Mini Moke?

Had to ask because I don't think they made a 999. An 848, 997 or 998, 1098 or 1275.

Visibility for a speedo cable change isn't very good and lots of people remove the cable complete with the drive to avoid cross-threading the cable nut.

Over the decades the range of Mini Spares and applications have been rationalised so a longer cable isn't surprising - some Minis had a speedo in front of the driver (long cable) and others a central speedo (shorter cable).

I expect you managed to lose the oil seal that just sits on the top of many of the speedo drives and is retained by the speedo cable nut. It has been a long time so only I think that is right...
The alternative is an oil seal fitted to the drive housing.

When the oil seal is absent or has failed there is a leak but I never knew one that leaked massive amounts of oil - often oil would be pushed up the inside of the speedo cable and has known been known to ruin the speedo.

I have a 1976 gmc 3/4 ton p/u. it has a hydramatic 400 trans. all gears worked well. at a stop light, i tried to go and barely made it across the street. reverse still works but no forward gears. what...

The sunshell or reation drom gears can shear off at a movements notice and cause this exact problem, the trans will have to come out and overhauled.

Speedo quit working-- trans

your fluid is low and quite possible you seized your tranny up apply fluid and dont just rely on dipstick for this make sure the tranny is full of fluid

your linkage to transmission might have come apart another reason for no shifting

now for the speedo
there is a little device that connects speedo cable to the tranny and then the mechanical of tranny from there is called a speedo bullet
if you seized your tranny the speedo bullet would have gotten sheared off in side the speedo bullet is wrenched on and can be wrenched off replace the bullet speedo should start working again
